  1. UPDATE: We took out the space in between 2 words in the field name and it started working. Unfortunately, the field name actually does have a space in it, and one of the other columns in the worksheet that did work (and still does) has a space in it. So a blanket "don't use spaces" is not an acurate assessment of the problem. We still don't know why it works/doesn't work, but for now, it is working. et
  2. We have an existing worksheet set up to read certain fields of a record format for easy export. We have added a new field to the record format. In the worksheet, we added a column, and then used the same type command as the other columns: =('record name'.field name) however, when the command is entered, it only repeats it for each of the selected criteria instead of actually reading the field value. We so far have tried quitting VW, and even restarting the mac in hopes it would recognize it as existing. Anything else we can try? OSX VW 10.1.2
  3. nope, I only have one layer in the drawing.
  4. Update: When I render the drawing, the stairs not only show up unrendered where they were in 2d, but also in the correct location and are fully rendered. When I deleted the 2d version (yes i can click on it even when it is out of place) the correctly located rendered version disappeared as well. So that blew my theory that there were 2 sets.
  5. I have a drawing containing stairs created using the stairs tool. The "Create 3D" button is clicked in the Object Info plt, but the stairs remain in the "Top" view (2d, including directional arrows) when I am in a 3d view. It has at times showed up as 3d in the correct position, but is currently staying where it was in the top view, while everything else is rotated. Is there anything I can do?
  6. I am trying to create pumps in 3D. Most of the pump is swept from a catalog import. When I try to cut out a section from the sweep, it gives the bad geometry message. I have tried the sweep around a locus in the center, tried sweeping half the pump around a locus on the edge, and converted the sweep to mesh. All give me the same message. On another drawing, I had tried the same and it gave me what looked like a solid addition. The object i was using to cut the pump became added to the pump, but was still labeled a solid subtraction in the Object Info pallet. It even rendered. Any advice? et
  7. I ran into this type of problem while trying to create reducing pipe elbows. We have Julian's 3d Manager for VW9 that allows such items to be created. Since I am in VW10, I had to go back to VW9 to use it, save the file, and open it up in VW10. I am not too sure if Julian Carr still has this available for purchase, but it is a powerful tool that allows you to create many things otherwise undrawable. I believe there is a link from nemetschek's website under "Add-on Products". Sorry this is 4 months late, but perhaps it can help others who have such a question while doing a search.
  8. I have imported data from an arial survey. The contours came in in many many pieces. I have composed the many small polygons into larger polygons. Before I convert them to 3d, I would like to reduce the amounts of vertices present in each polygon. When I double click on a polygon, it is jam-packed with vertices and I know this is contributing to the large file size. Many of these seem repetetive and unnecessary, but would take months to erase by hand. Is there a tool or command that can filter out the seemingly useless vertices and still leave the general shape of the polygon?
  9. I HAVE ROAD STATIONING DATA AS GIVEN BY VW. THE CURVE DATA STARTS W/ ?. IS THIS SUPPOSED TO BE THE DELTA? IF SO, HOW CAN I GET A DELTA SYMBOL (TRIANGLE) instead? I Looked under key caps and couldn't find any combo to get one. PS i am not angry, just left the caps lock on et
  10. Katie's solution points out the problem that is nearly always the case. Most of the time I get a dwg i know nothing about and have to import to see what it is. If you know ahead of time it is architectual, you can usually skip the units. Most of mine are site plans that only use feet, so I strive to remember to set my units to feet first. NNA, is it possible to add a units selection option box to the import dialog box, or is that too late to affect the import?
  11. I am not sure exactly what you are saying the problem is. What kind of objects are showing up "jagged"?
  12. On several different .dwg imports, the text has come in unreadable. The text is scrambled, and most of the time, the identified text's bounding box is tiny. On one copy i was able to select the text, click on and off "wrap text" and the text would correct itself. On the current file, that is not working. Did I incorrectly import the file or did I miss something? Anybody else had problems? VW 10 and 10.1 g4 w/ enough of everything
  13. I have multiple amounts of 2 similar hybrid symbols layed out over my dtm. I selected all of them and used "Send to Surface". Some of each went to the surface, while others stayed at elevation 0. All of them are located within the bounds of the dtm. I keep trying to send the remaining ones to the surface to no avail. Any Ideas?
  14. That at least gives me a hint as to where to look in case other problems ever come my way. While I have you, Is there any known problems w/ using Quicktime 6.1? I caught wind of problems with an earlier version conflicting w/ renderworks and consequently never updated from Qt 5. It keeps showing up in my Software Update, but I hesitate until I know there are no problems. et
  15. THAT was it. Things work now. Out of curiosity, what other problems does have the none class's "use at creation" box checked create? I had never heard not to do so. et
  16. I have been adding the color from the attributes palette, but the road still won't take it. I also tried changing the class attributes to have a solid fill pattern and checked the "use at creation" button. Still Nothing. I even tried quitting and coming back in because that solved a problem a week or two ago. I am using the custom renderworks to do the rendering, and the triangulated symbol renders well, (trees too- impressive!), but I still am unable to get the road to go. Jaguar-running VW10 et
  17. I just now used the road feature under landmark. It is a great tool. I have a simple road that in my drawing and followed the steps in the book. everything went according to the book until I tried to make the wireframe road grey or even have a gravel texture. So far nothing has worked. Is there something i am missing? et
  18. restarting worked. thanks a bunch. et
  19. We recently switched to vw 10 and OSX jaguar. On an older G4 tower, upgraded to jaguar, some functionality has been lost. 1) Holding the space bar does not boomerang to the pan tool. The pan tool appears for a split-second, then reverts back to the previous tool (almost like one simply tapped and released the space bar). 2) The holding the shift key no longer allows the user to select multiple objects. 3) The option key no longer allows the user to make duplicates. We switched keyboards to eliminate the faulty keyboard option, but it still has the problems. Is this a general problem? Anybody else experience anything similar while upgrading? et
  20. I tried the Disable driver text rotation, but it didn't affect the angled text in the image files.
  21. Update: Rotating the missing text blocks back to 0 degrees will allow the text to show up in the generated image file. et
  22. I have a 3d rendered drawing with text used to label the components. After exporting as an image file, both pict and jpg, I lose some of my text. The text I lose is on an angle, however, not all text on an angle is lost. The text blocks that do show up are in the exact class and layer as the ones that don't. I have tried moving the text into different layers, generating an image file without rendering, and moving the info into another file. Nothing has worked. Anybody know what to do? VW version 9.5.3 OS 9.1 w/ around 350 megs given to VW
  23. Under the text menu, we are able to select Bold and/or Italic while nothing is selected. All text typed after that is Bold and/or Italic. I would like to see the same capability under capitalization. This way, we would have the versatility of switching back and forth between applications without worrying whether or not the Caps Lock is still on. (Almost all of my VW text blocks are capitalized.)
