  1. Hello @Pat Stanford, This (sunday) evening I found this... Which appears to be more people requesting the same thing, and you already saying its not easy. Sorry, I should have searched the forums more intensely for similar strings. If it can't be a database, can it be a script? Have to say I'm a bit surprised its not possible to extract component info and give it to contractors easily? Seems an obvious requirement? I'm going to try marionette... wish me luck.
  2. I've asked this same question in another string. Sorry I did not find this first. Here is the link. But no answer for you! I'll post any good suggestions. If "component" was listed under type, It might simply be a case of "list all types of component" that are also wall type A, then create a worksheet for each wall type. But Component does not appear in the list. So I could not work it out either.
  3. By the way, I did try this great little tool to try and find the right hooks for the components in walls But it only worked on PIO objects for me, not walls. Its still great mind.
  4. Hello, Thanks for this @Pat Stanford I got a lot closer to what I needed following a few tutorials and other threads I found. http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2018/eng/VW2018_Guide/Worksheets/Worksheet_Tutorial_Creating_a_Wall_Schedule.htm and this.... These are almost what I need to achieve, and if you write out the wall type component build up in the description, this works. However, it does require duplication of information and consistency. i.e. if for example an inner block skin jumps to 140 block, you have to remember update it twice. This is more of what I need to achieve (hacked up in excel as an example) Note here it is listing out the wall types, summarising them, AND listing the components and other data the components carry. My concern here is the cell merging. I just don't think worksheets as a data base can do this? So I'd happily settle for this! Which I think probably is possible... but I still can't find out which record formats to bring in and list? I can get it to list the wall types, but not separate out the components and find their values/parameters??? It could be that the work sheet then lists all the other wall types after this, so just one big list - however I can see contractors panicking at such a big list. So better''' I think my ideal is a script that creates a worksheet for every wall type in a drawing, and places it in a folder. Then I can float these on a sheet, next to a little viewport I manually create with an example of that wall type / slab type / roof type. This gets over the image quality/scale issues with the worksheet images. Potentially, if scripted, could the wall type name and description (from IFC data) be grabbed and inserted before the worksheets becomes data base rows? like this? And then, its just a case of running the script every time the you need to publish the summary to update the wall types if they have changed. I could have a go at coding this in marionette, but it would take me some time, if I ever get ti working. In vectorscript... not a chance! I can see it would be useful to many people. The forum link at the top of the page shows and the existence of a "wall type report" in the default library content means others must have needed this before, I just don't understand why it does not list out the wall/roof/slab components and their parameters. These are essential construction data about them. Or maybe some other tool does already and I've missed it? Any thoughts, let me know, Thanks
  5. Hello, This is almost exactly what I am trying to create, but is it also possible to list out the components and thicknesses of a wall / slab / roof style? The thing I don't understand is the summary placed against components.... it needs to effectively merge multiple entries of cells on the right hand of the table, while maintaining individual component rows on the left. I don't think it can do this? so I currently have a sheet of multiple worksheets, and arrows. Thanks
  6. Thanks @halfcouple Strange... following your message I thought yes, must be the site model that needs updating.... but when I loaded it up this evening, all the red borders have gone after the first update anyway ? (I've not updated the site model - maybe it auto updates on file open?) . Either way. the problem appears to have sorted itself out. Thanks again
  7. Hello, Data tags. Aren't they exciting. Can anyone help getting them to work with the sections in my workflow? I don't think its a bad workflow per say, but its not working with the data tags Workflow.... I have modeled most key elements in 3D, using wall types, floor types and roof types, getting all the offset of the wall components to work correctly with the boundary offsets of the floor components, so all looks mostly like it should in the sectional construction drawings, and then there are a few other beams and other extruded geometry placed throughout the model. BUT due to consistent and recognised bugs (like the window cills being on the wrong side of the wall) I don't model everything so the sections are ready to issue staright from a sectional viewport. I'm some way from that. When they are mostly there, I copy the layer, convert the sectional viewports to polygons, and tidy everything up, add detail etc as per a traditional CAD drawing. The original layer with its sectional viewport remains as a reference, so I can track changes in the model or start the 2D section again following major a rework Perhaps its not die hard BIM/3D, but its working for me to get correct drawings out in good time. Problem So now we have Data tags, but I can't get these to work in my sections. Clearly the exploded section geometry loses all data when converted, the tags can never work here. But unexpectedly, the data tags, are not picking up the wall types (for example) in the original (unconverted) sectional viewport WHEN ITS IN A DESIGN LAYER? It does appear to work in the sheet layers, if I make another sectional viewport and section line. But this would mean making another 20 or so sectional view ports, in the same place as the ones I have already, only this time going to the layout, labeling up with tags, turning off all layers in the view port, and floating the annotated viewport over my other viewport containing the converted 2d section. This does not sound like a good work flow. Any ideas? Basically I just need the data tags to work on sectional viewports in the design space. But they don't seem to do this? Thanks
  8. Hello, If the tags you want are a certain style you can get them with the tools>custom selection. It took me a while to find the selection criteria, but here I am using wall tag w. leader style If they are all unstyled, of the same style this will not work I do totally agree its frustrating there is not a way to auto class the tags as they are dropped. So all of one style of tags, could optionally be but in a given class as they are created. but its not an option I can see. I don't suppose the rotation works for you does it? see to the left of the screen grab, B.20 is vertical. All my wall tags follow the wall directions?? And the rotation override in the OIP does nothing. Hope the solution works
  9. Hello, Its not crashing for me (well it is, but not when I update viewports). However, all my sectional viewports now have an alarming red hatch line around them. Worked fine in 2018. Geometry seems to be there are and correct after update (the red cross has gone) but whats the red line about ? Thanks
  10. I should add, they have caused me multiple VW crashes. Save often.
  11. Hello all. Great thread and helpful. Move fwd 2 years and VW19 has its data tags. Has any one started using these yet? lots of potential. I'm having a problem with the rotation of these. I started with a default data tag style for walls, but it seems to lock the rotation down, even though it gives you an option to change it, this does not seem to work. So walls running vertically on the screen, the tag runs vertically? walls running 45 degrees, so the data tag is locked to 45. Even though the rotation is not a style control parameter in the OIP? Is there a tick box I'm missing. Thanks
  12. Dam, found exactly the question I need, just to find I wrote it 4 years ago. Still need this. Just needs a short cut at the top of the list when you click classes in the edit info palette.. Edit objects class. EXACTLY as per the wall styles, salb styles etc, (edit style....), that takes you straight to edit that style, If any one knows a fast way to edit the selected objects class? don't like to think of the time this would have saved me in 4 years of heavy VW use! Thanks
  13. FYI This is how the components turned out... So partly right. Its on horizontal mode. Probably some roof components need to be vertical, some horizontal, but I don't think that possible.
  14. I made some progress, It can't do what I hoped, but it has kind of worked to a LOD 300 type thing. Using the internal and external detail components (ie. how many wrapping components) works ok in plan - this is straight from the 3D model then hit a few bugs. So I'm bodging it again. This string kind of sums it up.
  15. This is still odd for me. I have a roof layer, its elevation relative to the storey is 0. All the walls on the layer below in the stack, (that layer also associated with the correct storey), are set to have a top bound of 1500 (wall plate height in this case). I'm trying to make a very sleek clipped form here, where the roof edge has no over hang (with inboard hidden gutters). I've made a gable ended pitched roof from 4 simple walls. I set the eaves over hang to 0. and the end condition to horizontal, But... If I set the bearing height or the eaves height to 1500 (which should be the same when the cut is horizontal and there is no overhang?), the roof does not sit at quite the right height? Also playing with the thickness effects it, as does the bearing inset. In the end I had to do a trial and error approach with there bearing inset to get it at the right height? the wall thickness is 425, the roof is 440, the bearing inset was 247.5 or close to it. Is there any guidance on the relationships here? I can't find any? its not in the videos? I think it really needs to set a setting out point, somewhere in the constriction (which It thought might be the inter section the inner face of the wall core and the roof line of the datum roof component) and then everything springs from there? The clipping of the roof components seems odd to. I'm not even going to try and get this working. Any tips or resources any one has, please point me in the right direction. Thanks
  16. hello. 2019 is now out. Has this been implemented yet yes? There must be a way for the grid lines to appear vertically, and some storey lines in the viewports now? Can't find any guidance on it? Thanks
  17. Hello, I think this is entirely possible. But I'm doing something wrong. I'd like a report of all the wall types used. I need this report to list out all the wall styles used, and the components in each wall type and their thickness. Its for the contractor to understand the wall build up in each style for pricing. My plan is then to add further specification information in the adjacent columns. I then plan to make another report that lists out quants against wallstyles. I can get it to list out each wall object easily enough. But its the summary function that seems to be going wrong? Say the first column is WallStyleName, The second is ComponentName, the third is Component Thickness. When first generated, it lists out every occurrence. When I use summary on the first column it condenses all the second column. When I use summary on the second column its closer to the intended report, but not what I expected. It seems to list out just a few wall styles and their components, but not everything? Any ideas? Thanks everyone
  18. Thanks. When you are fixing it, maybe we can have an aluminum option? the aluminum pressed metal cills are a standard option with both Velfac and Ideal combi, who make up good sized part of the market in the uk. The aluminum cil option would be a good addition to the velfac type window. They are made by a company called Finish Aluminum. I can send you a profile drawing if you need it. They are not complicated in section. Easily within this LOD300 type level. Thanks again for looking at this.
  19. Ah great, this will do fine until they fix it. (Do they typically fix this type of thing?)
  20. Bug submitted. Do they give a bug bounty? like apple and google? Pretty sure I have some more! Maybe they will send me a t-shirt. I'm a medium, if you are reading this VW people
  21. Thanks for all your input. I was asked to upload an example (sorry for delay, even finding 10 mins is hard these days) Example now attached. - West wall correct in 2d plan, incorrect in 3d - Copied to the South wall where I turned off the side light, then turned it back on again. This is correct in 3d but incorrect in plan, But in any case, It looks like you also think this is a bug and not user error this time. I shall do the bug thing. But any further suggestions / work arounds gratefully received. Thanks Door with side light test.vwx
  22. Thanks all. @Wes Gardner You might not be wrong... but on this one its not really about the schedule. Its exactly as @Robert Anderson has suggested, LOD300. I want the GA plans to look correct enough at 1:50, and for some of them to form the basis of the the details which I CAD over in 2D. Velfac send out a full schedule in their own format anyway, which A: in 10 years they have never got entirely right regardless of the schedule I send them from which its generated, B: they always insist their schedule is signed before order, even if I ask them to just follow our schedule. So, I now just give them the Structural openings and elevations drawings, because I have to go through their schedule with a fine tooth comb anyway. Its just quicker to red pen their work. @Robert Anderson Thanks, these settings are an improvement on the ones I was using, Thanks so much for taking the time. BUT, I still think these suffer from the orientation issue? When you turn the cill on, it appears on the wrong side of the window? i.e. the inside. When you flip it in the wall, so the cill is on the outside, the geometry is completely thrown out (maybe because something in the PIO is telling it to cut back the jambs to suit an inward opening window?) I've tried to demonstrate this in the updated attached test. On the north wall, I have now plugged your jamb and sash numbers in. As you can see on the left (in plan), it works nicely, but the cill is on the wrong side (I've pulled one out the wall to demonstrate). On the right I tried flipping it. The cill moves to the correct side of the wall but the (careful considered LOD 300) geometry is thrown out. Its like it flips the cill, but not the frame. When you pull it out the wall, the cill is on the correct side relative to the wall, but not the window, although the window geometry corrects itself? Thanks again to both of you for taking the time to respond. velfac window test.vwx
  23. No, its the std Door PIO in the from the building pallet. Yes, I hope when I get 10 mins today to isolate this in a file and up load it. The test will be if the same problem occurs in the much smaller file. I think you are right, it is due to the caps. But because it recurs consistently (in the big file) when the side light is turned on in the PIO, I'm assuming its a bug related to the side light/caps in the PIO. Thanks for the response.
  24. Another day another vectorworks bug. I have a door with a side light. I'm using internal detail (detail comps. 3) and external detail (detail comps. 1) wrapping into the frame. When it looks correct in 2D, it renders incorrect in 3D If I then turn side lights off and on again in 3d, it looks correct. Then when I go back to 2d it does this. So I correct in 2d manually and I'm back to the start with the 3d messed up again? Can some one at VW look at this little bug please? Thanks
  25. Every single time I make a change to a window style plugin object.... it messes up all the carefully set geometry of the Interior and exterior details, so I have to go around the whole building and re set them up. This is very frustrating. Any suggestions? Thanks
