  1. Vincent & Horst, See attached. I am not getting the submenu to edit the ambient on my texture?? TY J
  2. This may be helpful for others, 1. Ceiling: is a Texture BM Decorator White- Plain Color, no reflectivity, transparency or bump. 2. Lighting Options: Ambient on at 45% Brightness, Color Temp 3400K 3. Lights: (8) point lights in the recessed cans 850 Lumens, 25% dimmer, (6) point lights 1'-0" below ceiling 1150 Lumens, 2800K, 35% dimmer, smooth distance fall off, (1) spotlight outside window 50% brightness I would still like to brighten it a bit. Any thoughts?

I had Anti-Aliasing on & no duplicate objects where the cabinets are, so rather annoying jagged lines as I am almost there with this rendering. The shell tool works nicely as well. TY J

    Lathe Tool?

Guys thanks for looking at this. See the attached JPEG. One last question, the upper cabinets w/ glazing on either side of the stove show a fat or dashed type line... why is that? The image is a CRW, exported as an image file JPEG at 300 dpi. Is it simply an issue of the dpi that creates these anomalies? J

    Ray, see attached. TY J

    Lathe Tool?

Ray, Great tool. The hollowed out portion of the lamp shows as an inverted cone but I think is acceptable for what I am doing. J

    Lathe Tool?

Hi All, I need to do (2) things: 1) Create a turned leg/post solid- not sure where to begin. I would think to draw the profile in elevation & rotate it around a given radius...which tool/set would that be. 2) Create a hurricane lamp- similar to above but hollowed out. Any help is greatly appreciated. TY J
  8. Attached is my attempt at Dan's suggestion... I am doing something wrong with the Constant texture at 80% transparency. A screen shot of the appropriate menu would be greatly appreciated. TY J
  9. Vincent C, I am not sure where to change the texture ambience, please post a screen shot. TY J
  10. I ran some tests, removed the line lights and FQRW & Custom RW each took @ 2.5-3 mins. As soon as I started with the Final Gather & Ray Tracing, I get the color wheel time suck & bailed after 20 mins. BTW I am unable to either "Esc" or "Force Quit" out of these renderings. Dan, when you refer to "Constant Texture" and adjusting transparency am I correct in assuming that you mean adjust the "Opacity" of the new texture in Tools>Organization>Class Palette. Let me know as I don't see where else I would make these adjustments. I have attached a CRW screen shot, ceiling is solid fill white, no texture. TY J
  11. Additionally, why is it that the 24W flourescent lights below the upper cabinets reduced to 5% brightness shine as brightly as they do? TY J
  12. I gave Horst's suggestion a shot and 3.5 hours later I am still looking at the color wheel...so apparently I am not that patient. I have tried to Escape the Rendering & Force Quit Vectorworks each to no avail, so I am shutting down my computer. I will try Dan's suggestion & post the result tomorrow. Thanks for you comments. J
  13. Hi All, How do you get a ceiling to appear as a white ceiling? In the attached screenshot the rendering is Custom Renderworks. Lighting=Use Shadows. Shadow Mapped Shadows= High,High. The ceiling is a texture, BM White Cloud color w/ phong reflectivity. I have (7) spot lights & the (4) Undercabinet flourescents. Any thoughts are appreciated. TY J
  14. BCD, That did it, I think I had a near redundant class "counter" & "counters" only one of which was on. TY J
  15. Hi All, When applying a texture to a counter top, (See the attached screen shot) the texture does not appear in the DL but does appear when in a saved camera view?? Not sure why, any thoughts? TY J
  16. Jonel, I have Jonathan Pickup's book, Vectorworks Architect Tutorial Manual" and it is a very good starting point for learning VW 2010. Additionally, I have done private training with Peter and that has proved to be an extremely valuable experience... and of course the forum here. TY J
  17. Peter & BCD, Thanks, I will keep these in mind. Another method that works is to shut off the computer & unplug it, take the dogs for a walk, come back a half hour later & it works properly! J
  18. Hi all, My Vectorworks seems to be frozen? See screen shot. I can't quit/save, etc. How does one solve this problem. Simply shutting down & restarting the computer doesn't work?? TY Jeremy
  19. Bob-H & Propstuff, yours was exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. I have worked with the cabinets & rail features some but think I will model them instead. TY Jeremy
  20. Hi all, Just wondering if users are using the base/wall cabinet tools and or rail/baluster tools? As using extrusions & offsets seems to get the job done as well. Advantages/disadvantages of either method encountered? TY J
  21. It may be a nice feature to be able to "save on the screen" a dimension that was measured using the measurement tool. So a simple shortcut that holds the measured dimension until released. Presently, we are forced to remember or write down on a separate piece of scratch paper that, for instance, the ridge of a given roof needs to be extended 3'-7.068" Anyhow, just a thought. J
  22. Peter, What you are describing is what I had done for the screen shot which I will need to clean up. I will use convert to group as you mention. TY Jeremy
  23. Hi All, Now that I have a well built model. What is the best way to present the elevations as CD's. Is the preferred methodology to: 1.) copy the "elevation viewport" as a hidden line rendering/convert to group & then cleaning up lines as necessary 2.) then overlay that hidden line drawing over the original FQRW rendering in the SLVP 3.) then annotating the elevations in the SLVP Just looking for some insight on best practices. See attached screen shot. TY Jeremy
  24. Hi All, I know this will be a simple fix but it is eluding & frustrating me at present. My Title Block(title block class) and Viewports (viewport crop) class do not appear when I switch from a DL to an SL. I can manually select the the classes & turn them on, but I need these classes to be automatically on in my Sheet Layers. TY Jeremy
  25. Dan, I hope that is a new feature, because I have been wanting to do that for 2D-elevation work for a while now. This should be on page 1 of any tutorial manual!! J
