  1. So now I've installed SP3 and guess what? Yup - the rogue serial size is back! Nice to see you old friend! You never know - SP3 might be the universal panacea we've all been waiting for, but my experience so far is restricted to a file which opens and then drops into what seems like an infinite loop, rendering and re-rendering without actually drawing the building. I can only stop this by pressing the Esc key. Perhaps this will be cured by saving again - I'm holding my breath.... Can anyone explain the use of submitting a bug with a simple solution only to have that solution deleted by the official patch. Come on Nemetschek - sort yourselves out!! Rob
  2. That looks great! Can you tell us how to make it work in a bit more detail or post a link to your previous thread? Rob
  3. I didn't check that precisely, however I did prove that I can get any of the missing walls to appear if I simply add a door to it. This seems very strange. In the end I had to recreate all the viewports and then the walls showed up. It must be a glitch, but I'm not sure what. Rob
  4. OK - here's an interesting question: I have a large file (too large to post here, unfortunately), which I created in 2009 and then imported into 2011. Firstly a lot of the text formatting (mainly font and size) changed for no good reason, which is a pain, but which I have mostly resolved. The big problem is that I have now realised that only some of the walls appear in viewports. They are all on the same layer and have the same class. If I access the design layer using 'Edit Design Layer' then the missing walls appear. I am attaching a couple of screen grabs showing what I mean. After looking at the drawing for a while I realised that all the walls which contain one or more doors appear in the viewport, all the rest don't! I can check this by adding a door to a wall - the result is that the wall, with the door, now shows in the viewport. What's all this about??? Rob
  5. Thanks for the reply, Farookey. It seems strange to me that you can't see both sets of information at the same time whilst in editing mode. Still, I like your copy/paste solution as a work around. What is the benefit of having the 2D components in screen plane instead of layer plane? Rob
  6. Hi All, I have done a search for the above topic, but so far found nothing. My question is simple: when editing a hybrid symbol how do you show 2D information when editing the 3D information and vice versa so that you can line up the two components? I have created a set of door symbols: when I edit them the 2D part sometimes ends up 'out of register' with the 3D part, which means I have to measure the error and move one part or the other to compensate. Surely overlaying 2D over 3D to avoid this kind of problem is straightforward? Cheers Rob
  7. I tried this and got a list of Issue Data. Try changing the line to: H2:=GetRecord(H1,2); For some reason this doesn't list the revision numbers. Does anyone know how to extract the data? Rob
  8. I'm with Farookey on this one - it can't be that hard: there must be a straightforward parameter which records the latest revision letter (or number), which can be placed in a field in the title block. This is what computers are for! Rob
  9. Hi Jeffery, Thanks for such a speedy and thorough reply! It all worked just like you said. I'll send off a bug report as you suggest. Regards Rob
  10. Hi All, I'm trying to place an instance of a BSI Universal Beam with a serial size of 254 x 146 x 31 using the wide flange tool. Unfortunately there's something wrong somewhere (see attached screen grab) and it doesn't work. I've tried finding the master list so I can correct it, but with no luck. Any ideas? Regards Rob
  11. I had the same problem! Change the scale of the viewport and the sheet changes as well. What's more, if you change the viewport back to the old scale the sheet stays the wrong size. Why are the basics of VW so buggy??? Rob
  12. Oops - forgot the attachment!
  13. I have a set of plan/section/elevation drawings of a 3D object and I want to create a 3D model. The components are a set of extrusions (and other objects which I haven't made yet), which need lining up in space based on their positions in the plans. The problem is that I can't snap from a 3D view to the 2D object, so I can't get the alignment correct. I know I'm missing something obvious. In 2009 I could draw 2D guides, to which the 3D objects would snap if all else failed. I'm attaching a copy of the file in question. The black and white 3 view comes from an imported PDF and the red extrusion is the beginning of the 3D model, former D. This wants to align over the side view of the fuselage. Any ideas gratefully received. I'm using 2011 on a Mac.
  14. Thanks for all the help and encouragement!
  15. Why can't Nemetschek sort out the basics? For no apparent reason I keep getting crashes when trying to connect wall components. There seems to be no rhyme or reason - I can T-join the middle component for example, but when I try to L join the next component out CRASH! Bye bye work to date, hello to digging out back up files and redoing the last half hour.... These tools have been around long enough: they should work seamlessly and without fault. Grump, grump, grumble.... Using 2009 on a MacBook Pro
  16. I am having a problem with windows in elevation. When I zoom in close to any edge of the opening I can see two lines where there should be one. They are exactly 0.254mm apart, which I think is 0.01". If I switch on either the inside or the outside trim the additional lines disappear, unless I set the dimensions of the trim to 0, in which case the rogue lines come back. Has anyone else encountered this and have any idea how to stop it? I definitely don't want any trims showing. Also, and this may be related, when I add a sill a border the same depth as the sill is added all round the window. The border doesn't appear on the plan but does in elevation. This is simply constructionally incorrect and I have no idea why it is happening. I am attaching a file which shows what I mean. You'll have to zoom in to the left hand window to see the extra border. I'm using VW 2009. Thanks.
  17. Ray, Thanks for your help! Regards Rob (Decoyman)
  18. Here is a copy of the source of all the trouble.
  19. How do I attach a file? We have now managed to open it - by opening it in AutoCad and re-saving it as a different file. Nevertheless I would be interested to see if anyone else has better luck. Rob
  20. Hi, I went a bit quiet on this one because I was waiting for a new version of the file to be sent. I now have three copies, all allegedly different, all with code AC1018, which seems to mean created using AutoCad 2004/2005/2006. None of these will open in Vectorworks. The files seem fine when opened with DWG viewer or if opened again by the originator I'm surprised that this sort of error crops up so readily - it doesn't reflect well on Vectorworks, does it? Rob M
  21. "This usually means too new of an AutoCad version, are you sure it's an AutoCad 2004 file?" That's what I'm told - actually the person who sent the file said he was using AutoCad 2004, I suppose it could have been an older version for the export, but not newer, obviously. [EDIT] What does AD stand for in the description of the error code?
  22. I'm using the most up-to-date version of Vectorworks 2009. When I try to import an AutoCAD 2004 DWG I get 'Open DWG Library Error 309: Internal Error'. Does anyone have any ideas how to get round this? Rob
