we intend to go the full ipd way, including the contractor and subs along the design process, and managed by an independent bim construction manager. there will be no tender, but the target cost with target value design and the quality specifications. and with value engineering to control and to balance the overall cost and the one for each craft. any significant doubt and ambiguity is supposed to be solved in the design charrettes. and we'll manage the minor ones as well.

sbg your deprecating statements don't impress me anymore. there was hardly a single issue here you were positive. i try to avoid such people. believe me, i will work out _any_ obstacle.

archiphreak, don't bother reading negative statements. go for it. i'm just test exchanging ifc files with my mep/hvac consultant (revit/revit mep) and the troubles are with some booleans and roof-trimmed walls (while importing the ifc into revit). otherwise the geometry works ok. the project won't be big (12000 sq.ft.), but for clash detection even with those errors the ifc is enough. will your models be merged or otherwise referenced, apart from the clash detection? will you have sloped roofs trimming the walls? - there could be the flaws.

as you click on 'create entity', the object info box changes its object properties, but doesn't affect the ifc assignment. check it by yourself. you may want to retain the object attributes as they were originally created. rob

so you've lost your original object information while turning it into an ifc object, right? you didn't need to do this, the ifc assignment would have worked anyway. rob

the germans have a localization, but their vw costs more than double the int'l price. i buy in poland for the american price, no localization. rob

for the sheathing one could duplicate the roof like joe-sa writes and then alter the thickness, setting the whole on the top of the original roof. so the rafters could remain to the top. i don't have the vw open now. rob

thanks. 1. if top, then the walls will fit to the roof underside, not to the framing members. but ok, i must check this again. i know this aec command... another thing would be the sheathing thickness and occasional ventilation layer that may need to come on top. 2. i still need the amount of insulation volume. if not modelled in 3d, i can't retrieve this data. 4. yes, it would be the case. a bit cumbersome, but it'd work. rob

hi guys, i still don't have the v2013, so i can't judge if this: roof components wish has already been implemented. if not, i'd like to know how do you usually proceed with the pitched roof modelling? i know now that the inserting of the skylights with their holes in the roof object is possible and this still leaves the roof with its full functionality. but other questions remain: 1. do you set the framing members to the top or bottom of the roof volume? how about the walls fitting to the roof/framing members then? 2. do you model the extra roof faces for the roof components (for the sake of take offs), or do you insert the component thickness in the course of the 2d workout in the section views? 3. if you model the additional faces, do you do it on top, on the bottom or on both sides of the roof plane (e.g. for additional insulation in colder climates)? 4. if you model the additional faces, how do you cut out the holes in order to maintain the cutting direction: subtract solids, trying to fit the original holes in the main roof? thankful in advance for any hint to think over. rob

thanks, mike. i must have really missed the skylight option in the roof setting. the roof face has a much more evident layout for this. the only thing i can't see now is the skylight insertion option: either flush or surface mounted. as i set the velux in the roof a-new, it's surface mounted (and it's ok with me, i use this option in most cases). how can i choose the other insertion option, though? is it in the insertion option of the symbol itself? rob

rod, in order to get the dialog window you must click on the skylight handle. the skylight itself must be an only 3d object (a '3' in the resource browser beside the window symbol). the skylight cuts the hole in the roof and places the window simultaneously. rob

rod, i've watched both videos a few times already. the skylight insertion works this way as in the videos, you must but: 1. place the standard window anywhere in the top/plan view 2. convert this window into a symbol 3. select this new created symbol in the resource browser 4. then place the symbol in any 3d view (i use top view) - you see then all window parts in the object info dialog 5. ungroup it 6. turn it back into a skylight symbol again (this time it's a 3d symbol only). then you can use it as a skylight, as in the educational videos. the trouble is that everything works fine except for the miter editing options. this dialog doesn't exist in the roof element options palette. rob

i try to find the skylight miter editing options listed in the following document: nemetschek skylight editing info but i can't see any objectinfo for skylight, it's only for the roof itself. i intend to chose the splayed shape of the skylight roof opening, but it's nowhere to be found. am i missing something? thx in advance, rob
