  1. It just seems like an extra step. I have to put an object in the drawing that I don't want, just to convert it to the object I do want. Thanks for all your work on these tools, they have helped me out a great deal!
  2. Thanks for your help Andrew. Most of this I pretty much knew, but wanted to confirm just in case. Something I did notice, when you are importing a new speaker, you cannot do it from the tool preferences. You have to first drop a speaker in, then click configure array from the OIP. That is the only place I find the import option in the speaker menu.
  3. That is what I figured, I just wanted to double check. How would you draw a speaker like the jf100 that has a depth to the front height before it angles to the back depth?
  4. Is there a way to import a symbol and actually use the symbol that you imported? I did your import, but all it seems to do is take the data from the ATS-SpkrModData and draw a new speaker. If that is all it is going to do then why go through the import process?
  5. I have given up on VW doing any kind of pdf creation, whether that be printing to pdf or exporting. I like to export a png file and convert that to pdf. It seems to keep the file size down and increase the quality. It sucks that it has to take an extra step, but I have found that to be the best result.
  6. I already know how to do all the clipping and shaping of my boundary lines. I just get frustrated because I really want the tool to work like it should. bcd, I was not aware of that and will try that next time.
  7. That is what I do, but the problem is if you don't have a perfectly symmetrical boundary then it doesn't work. Most of the time I am dealing with trapezoids, triangles, parallelograms and odd shapes. The tools is just not very intuitive. There should also be a way to subtract seats as needed without ungrouping it and losing all the functions of the seating layout.
  8. No, none of my movers that hang have clamps. I just put it closer to the truss. For most of my renders that little detail doesn't matter because the movers are not detailed at all.
  9. I don't have a symbol for Hung & Stand. I use 1 symbol and change the 3D Orientation. Select the symbol and near the bottom of your OIP should be a check mark for set 3d orientation. If you click that you should get options that allow you to rotate it in 3d. If you were going to try what I suggested above, use 1 symbol, and put it in your document. Change the 3D orientation, then save that as a new symbol. This was you original Symbol is being referenced within the new symbol. When I get a chance I can try this out to see if it works.
  10. Man, I spend so much time trying to orient the seats using seating layout. Is there any way to align the seat rows to 1 side of your border? The focus point is so inconsistent, if I change the shape a little all my rows change orientation.
  11. I don't know for sure, but If your symbol is a referencing another symbol maybe this would work. So your Hung & Stand symbol would have the Intellaspot symbol embedded in it.
  12. I would import the image into VW, scale it, then trace it with the polyline tool. With the polyline tool you can change moods between line and curves. Then extrude it what seems like about 2 inches. Texture you will have to play with.
  13. Kevin I am not sure how what you described was different from what I did, beside you did it to a symbol that had the lighting device.
  14. I talked about this on a different thread. Here is the link. http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Main=36563&Number=181022#Post181022
  15. Why don't you just import all your drawings into your template?
  16. I have found 2 things. The first I'm sure you know. Grab a corner and hold shift and this maintains the aspect ration. Problem is if you tab and enter x value it will not compute your y value. The 2nd thing you can try is grouping the object. When grouping you can tab and enter your x value, and if you then hold shift it will snap to the correct aspect ratio.
  17. I would like to have a way to watermark or lock a symbol I created. When sharing files with clients, I am okay with them using the symbols I created, as long as it is within the file I sent them. I don't want them to be able to take that symbol that I spent time creating or spent money on, and use it in their library.
  18. Yes I agree too, there needs to be a way to protect our creations. Most of the suggestions are good, but don't really stop somebody from using the object. I would go a step further and want to not only protect our symbols, but have a way to lock out the drawing so it can't be edited. I am going to start a thread on the wish list forum for this.
  19. Is there a way to lock a symbol from being copied. Sometimes I do drawings that after I am complete the client requests that I send them the VW file. I have spent hours making all the symbols I use in my library. I have also bought some. I have no problem with someone else being able to use that symbol in the drawing I send them, but I don't want them to be able to put that in their library for future use.
  20. Before I started using LightWright to edit all that data, I used to just select 9 fixtures at a time and work with those. It is kind of a tedius workaround, but it is what I had to do. i.e. grab fixtures 1-9 edit, 10 edit, 11-19 edit. and so on.
  21. the Modify>Convert>replace with symbol is only available in Designer and Landmark. When I talked to tech support about it, they told me they are trying to get that function in all versions of VW, but the engineers haven't put it in yet. As far as the Purge bug, I have talked to Tech Support about it, and I don't remember if they recorded it as a bug or not.
  22. I have had problems with this tool as well. I have never noticed it removing symbols, but for me it removes classes. When the list comes up with all the things it wants to purge, I unselect all the empty classes I want to save. Most of the time it will still delete all those classes even though I unselected them. About a year about I called tech support about this and sent them a file, but haven't heard anything yet.
  23. If you have Spotlight there are scaffolding symbols that come with the video screen PIO. I don't think they are in the VW Libraries, but you can navigate to them. They are in your VW folder, under Libraries, Defaults, Video Screen - Stand Models.
  24. You should setup TeamViewer so you can do Remote Desktop. Then you don't have to worry about forgetting that stuff. If you still need this send me a pm
  25. Here is an example of how I made the lens glow. Let me start with saying that I hardly ever use actual lighting instruments to light my renders, so this light that I created does not have a light device in it. I find that using the lighting a scene like I light a stage is not practical. I can use many less light devices and get them to work how I want to. The only time I use a lighting instrument to light is when I need shutters. So, for this I pretty much drew a lens that fit in the front, I think it is 1/4" inch. I applied a texture that I called "lens glow." The only field I changed in the texture was I added glow at 100%. I hope this helps.
