  1. Another update. File version 272 (as above) that we saved before of the disappearing issue worked for a few hour. And now we get 'file is corrupt' error message on the another terminal (this one is in windows), some users can't sync into project file. Reverting to backup before this error message. The joys of it all.
  2. Oh, its been 3 years but we still haven't got any updates on this?
  3. Hi. UPDATE AGAIN In our VWXP project file, which is 2GB in size and has lots of info in it. EVERYTHING DISAPPEARED. Yes, not a thing is left. Reverting back to an older version now. Terrible workflow. Terrible waste of time.
  4. Agreed. Section times are terrible. @JuanP Vectorworks is primarily a tool for Architects and Designers to output drawings. The performance of this is atrociously slow in the 3D workflow. Per post below. Speeding this up has to happen NOW. When can we expect this primary function of this tool to improve? PS Please don't ask me to send confidential Project Files to tech support. My experience is that I send confidential files out only to get a 'cannot replicate problem' response, and doesn't go further. We are highly proficient VW users with very good knowledge of IT, we have very good hardware in our office.
  5. Would be useful not just for 2D drawings but helps a lot with renders. to achieve better rendering results, we currently model our tiled floor/stone floor/decking boards. This tool would be so helpful and save so much time.
  6. Hi @Robert Anderson I'm stuck on one of the steps of the tutorials With the Selection tool, connect the output from the Integer node to the radius input of the Circle node, and then connect the output from the Circle node to the profile input of the Extrude node. With the selection tool, when I 'click' on the node, it just activates it. If I 'click-drag' the dot in the end, it moves it around. I managed to connect one node to another, but can't repeat this again.
  7. Thanks @Pat Stanford, but I don't see the advantage of what you are suggesting over what I wrote about above. As mentioned above, I already use the summarised worksheet to update the 'price' field to update information across all symbols, but is wrought with problems still (as mentioned in post above).
  8. @ScottLebsack agreed with you. To avoid dimensions going crazy in the wrong sheet (layout, setout, etc etc), we ONLY dimension in viewports too. To dimension inside the viewports, we have to trace the curve inside the viewport, make it 'invisible' and radial dimension on it. When we change our radius, this is almost impossible to pick up at review. 'Profoundly screwed up' is an understatement for how we feel each time we have to do it.
  9. @martinfdc totally agree with your point. We have a workaround for that in our office. It's a clumsy solution - but let me get to this at the end of my response. But first, in response to @markdd above, I may explain elaborate the situation which @martinfdc described and we regularly run into. And how what his 'Constant Record Format' suggestion is useful for. To preface, we want to our office have FULL BIM. All information is put into one place: Vectorworks. Not have other notes, excel sheets, etc to record information. ----------------------------------------------- THE SITUATION: Now, let's say a Herman Miller 'LCW' Chair. We put this chair in our model on Monday, attach a custom record format (we don't use the IFC records, FYI). We type in Manufacturer, model, etc. Price is missing. I ask my staff to check on price on Monday. On Friday, we get a call from the sales, telling us the price. By this time, we have put this Chair in the model for 130 instances, over 23 stories, in 52 rooms. Yes, we can 'Magic Wand' (select similar) the item and change the Record format all in one hit in Object Info. But this is not intuitive, and will take a long time (vectorworks to load all these symbols, across so many levels etc). Imagine the time it will take to update every small bit of information about each object, if we have 55 different pieces of furniture, plus hundreds of other fittings, appliances, equipment, accessories, artwork to add change Record formats to. It's not tenable. Back to the example of the Herman Miller LCW. My team should be able to select any one of the symbol instances of the 'LCW' Chair, change any piece of information related to it, and it all gets updated across ALL the symbol instances for LCW. ----------------------------------------------- OUR WORKAROUND: To make sure information across all symbols are consistent, we make a worksheet that 'summarises' by the item code (see screen shot below) So if there is anything inconsistent (say price), between the symbols, the worksheet will show a '-' instead of the price. We then enter the correct information in the worksheet, for it to be populated back into the symbols (it takes some time, not a quick snappy process). But there is still a problem. If, after we enter all the correct information into the symbols that are in the model (all 130 LCW chairs), and we add the 131st instance of the LCW chair from the resources library. The worksheet will now display a '-' across all fields. Because the LCW instance in the Resource library doesn't have the same 'price' as the ones we entered for the ones in our model. Only 'Constant Value Across Symbols' record format as proposed by @martinfdc can solve this. ----------------------------------------------- PROPOSED SOLUTION: We think there are two ways around this: (1) Create a checkbox for record format (easier) See mock up below. If you check this, the records across the same symbol will update and remain the same. This is as per @martinfdc's idea for this post. (2) Make Records Formats of of 'Symbols in Symbols' identifiable (cumbersome) Another workaround is to (as is the solution mentioned by @martinfdc), only attach Record format to Symbols that is inside another Symbol. So we have one consistent record inside the Symbol that we edit. This requires worksheets to be able to identify this kind of 'Symbols in Symbols' quite clumsy. ----------------------------------------------- IN CONCLUSION: We work with so many pieces of information in our model (as should all BIM offices)- and we would like to properly manage this information (what BIM is about). This change proposed by @martinfdcis imperative for Vectorworks to be an efficient BIM workflow and useful for information management. It will save my team a lot of time and eliminate a lot of risk for negligence, data conflict or omissions in workflow. In '
  10. @NikF it's a sentiment I share, in fact I have posted this up as a topic before.
  11. @martinfdc it's a necessary change, especially if we work with complex forms and construction. Should we post it up on wishlist forum?
  12. That may save us USD $10K on a solibri licence lol. But Nemestchek wouldn't do their own Solibri out of business by giving us Clash Detection in VW, will they?
  13. @JuanP looks fantastic! Will this improve the Performance of 'Multiple Pane Views' as well? I find that when I use 'Multiple Pane Views' with say one OpenGL perspective and one plan view window, the graphic performance of VW is drastically slower than just using one View Pane. I currently use a RX580 (8GB) graphics card and thinking of upgrading to a Vega 56. Questions: (1) Would the above VGM improve the Multiple Pane View performance? (2) Would the performance of Multiple Pane View improve with my said upgrade of GPU? Is Multiple Pane View performance GPU-bound?
  14. @martinfdc I agree, with your point. We have created horizontal sections, through say, a piece of joinery before. But inside the horizontal section, we do not have have the 'section line instances' to choose which 'elevation viewport' or 'section viewport' this 'section marker' should appear in. Improvements we would like to see: (1) Horizontal Sections should be able to be created through an elevation or section viewport. Not just through 'clip cube' (2) 'Horizontal Section Line Instances' to be added for these viewport I've attached a couple of screenshot to explain how we do it, and what is missing. I think it is what you described too?
  15. @NikF Love it. But shouldn't this be in 'Feature Request' forum and not 'troubleshooting'?
  16. @LeeElston did you just announce to the world your VW serial number? This is actually a severe serial security issue that I have raised with my VW vendor before. VW updater can be launched without Admin rights (on a Mac), and the serial is displayed just like that. The updater should require Admin rights to launch, so our Serial Number is much harder to access. (sorry to veer off topic)
  17. @JonMartell I like this idea. If I understood you correctly, it is to have 'smart saved views'/ 'dynamic saved views' that are based on certain pre-defined criteria (filters), right? Another important leap for 'saved views', that would work really nicely with your idea is if 'saved views' can be applied onto 'viewports', so changing a 'saved view' setting can affect multiple 'viewports'.
  18. Hey @Mark Aceto after seeing your post, we went to download a Parallels trial, and a Lumion Trial. All seems well until... When you install the 'Livesync' plugin for VW, it needs to find a VW 2019 SP3 installation on C:\\Program Files So we can't install the livesync. Without the livesync on Mac version of VW, Lumion on Parallels desktop isn't much help for us Mac VW users. *sad face*
  19. @rDesign thanks for linking those posts in. I did do a quick search before I posted, but guess I didn't use the search terms 'abort' and 'operation'. Since this request is now three-years-old (I note @Tom Klaber posted in 2017), I think it's about time it gets implemented. As to the technical side of multi-threading and the like, I'm sure the engineers at Vectorworks can sort it out. Aborting, force quitting, relaunching and reopening is a royal waste of time.
  20. Hi Jeffrey, we would like to explore implementing a Vectorworks-solibri workflow into our office. Can we have a further chat to you about this?
  21. We have the similar issue, also related to controlling attributes of items in Symbols. Wanting our our furniture (3D symbols) to show as 'dotted outlines' in interior elevations, we created their 2D in front, back and side elevations instances, and placed them in a class called 'IDES - FURN - OUTLINES'. However, we cannot control how these outlines appear. Sometimes they are solid, sometimes they don't appear, but we can't get them to show as dotted.
  22. UPDATE AGAIN: Upon saving the new project file and copying everyone's work into it. All of the previous Saved Views disappeared. The whole list is now blank. This is scary as we do not know which other part of our Project File may also suffer from data loss.
  23. UPDATE: Today we had three people work on one project file (1) Worker A was working on Living Room (2) Worker B was working on Laundry (3) Worker C was working on Skylight Once synced (VW shows no error on syncing), none of the workers can see the other's changes and work. We end up having to save a completely new version of the VW shared project file, and manually 'copy and paste' all the changes back in. This doesn't seem to work like 'sharing'. THIS REALLY DOES HAPPEN A LOT!!! Is our problem caused by us being on Mac but sharing via SMB? Are we the only practice with this issue?
  24. Hi @TimStott , thanks for your response 🙂 However- the view you show is a sectional perspective, not a viewport of club cube. Your method of using a section view with 'hidden line perspective' has a number of limitations, including: - The section plane is always a flat orthogonal true-section - Difficultly in controlling the vanishing point We have used this to create nice-looking sectional-perspectives in the past, but is not what I'm posting about here. Enclosed image better explains what I'm talking about.
