  1. Is there anyone using 3D mouse from connexion like space explorer. It worked in VW.2009 but not in VW.2011 (maybe 2012?). I hope VW can adapt this feature again, talked to 3D connexion and they say it is VW problem. Please VW. help me get my 3D world back, and thank you for 3D measuring feature in 2012. and many other good features in 2012. Looking forward to upgrade from 2011.

  2. This comes and goes regularly in VW, I had real problem in VW 11 if I remember right and again in 2011 but is better now with sp.3.

I think it has to do with the redrawing of the screen and is really frustrating and slows you down. The sad thing about VW When problems disapeer they send you it back with the next version,,, recycle of problems or sort of. One thing I have not been able to use for years is exporting .dwg or .dfx files to my milling machines for I thing the net which is underlying under the drawing is so coarse so when drawing lines and other 2d the ends of lines or arcs do not connect properly. You can see this if you zoom into deep. So when you import this to a machine it goes bananas like there is 7 on richter scale,, for the lines do not connect properly not enough for a machine with some acurety

  3. Well still waiting for answer from VW.Are there no answers or is it not allowed to rock the boat? :(

Is VW for instance working their homework on 3D mouse? Are they working on 3D dimension, sheet metal? any of this. Auto setup of detail bubble in parts list?

I call after answers from you guis at VW.honest answers.

Partslist like this (if pdf. shows up) is 10 times the work than in Inventor or Spaceclaim + the rendering is slow specially if there are 3d shafts from shaft tools and often freezes.

  4. I feel gladness in my heart to see that many of you who have always been loyal to VW. were always ready tell others users that changes for the better was just around the corner, now finally see that it is never going to happen. It is a relief because Stupid me belifed it also through more than 14 years now that 3d dimension would show up many years back, constrains on 3D bolts, shafts and holes, shaft tool is quit good but impossible to open from older versions all the chamfers and fillets that are un editable after upgrading from 2009. Should have been a big WARNING on this before batch converting these files.

Now I have drawn 3 complicated machines with parts list and plenty of holes, bolts not to mention the 3D shaft tool which turns out to be impossible when it comes to rendering in viewport.

    .

I am really angry to be in the position to have a pile of tousands of VW drawings which is impossible to import properly into other programs and the best way is to redraw the whole lot. Belief it or not (Europ inventor experts has worked on this for hours for us whit no result) Converting these drawings is impossible to other formats to work on.sat for instance

Spaceclaim is a good option and they are working on direct 3D which is the future of 3D draving.

I feel this we have been mislead and someone should be responsible at VW for letting us think it will be in next version or next version.

I now insist that VW give us a tool to export files in a different format that can be used fully by other programs in this mechanical field and shut down their mechanical department afterwards.

I?m not talking about .sat format here which brings no history or part numbers along when exporting something worth while looking on.

As you can see from the above I don?t recommend this software for mechanics, rather go to spaceclaim.com and see the light.

    still stuck in VW.

  5. Forgot one thing.

I am using VW 2011. better than older versions but still junk.

And yes I am angry. This is dead serious situation, many years of work down the drain.

I have now Autocad Inventor that is like driving a truck down town, it is all based on 2D drawing and for me there must be a better way to draw than that, but it has probably most of the features all of us need. I am really angry to be in the position to have a pile of tousands of VW drawings which is impossible to import properly into other programs and the best way is to redraw the whole lot. Belief it or not (Europian inventor experts has worked on this for hours for us whit no result).

2 years back there was someone here that was pointing out on http://www.cadtutor.net/forum/showthread.php?18358-SpaceClaim-vs-Alibre-vs-Inventor-SolidWorks-etc unfortunately I bought Inventor cause I never wanted to find my self in the position of using software that was as unic like VW.ending up with no support but I still think Spaceclaim is a good option and they are working on direct 3D which is the future of 3D draving.

I feel this is misleading and someone should be responsible at VW. I bought VW cause it was cheaper and seem to do more than others were offering at that time.

I now insist that VW give us a tool to export files in a different format that can be used fully by other programs and shut their mechanical department afterwards and I?m not talking about .sat format here

As you can see here I don?t recommend this software for mechanics.

  7. Hi folks

I have recently upgraded to 2009 mechanical from 2008.

The 2009 version can not edit my 2008 3D items that has 3D chamfer on. I can add chamfer to the 2008 item but seems impossible to edit prior to that.

    Other thing that I noticed:

    1. When changing layer scale it seems impossible to fit drawing border to the new scale.

    2. Nudge is unbelievably slow both in 2D and 3D.

    Best regards:

    Bjarmi

  8. Hi Oyvind

I will probably stick to VW, just thought Inventor had more advantage over VW looking at the price and it went through my mind that I was missing something important.

I would though like to see some add ons in VW soon, one has been waiting every year for more improvements than has showed up. Maybe these expectations are unrealistic for the money we are paying.

But things like 3D dimention, bubbles picking up info, ability to set zero in all perspective to work from and something else that I can?t recall at the moment.

How about making a wishlist from a group of VW mec. users to encourage VW programmers?

  9. Hi Oyvind and Guy and Pat

Sorry for my late respond. Thank you, this has been a great help already.

I am asking about the Inventor because people I know talk a lot about it and urged me to make the move and did not understand that this VW was any good .

I got myself a demo of Inventor and was totally lost for some time, at least I was quicker to do something useful in VW when I first got it about 10 years ago.

For now I spend 70% of my time designing and drawing, this is though a period that will pass and 30-40% is what I see in the future in this department.

I agree on what you say about the cost, Inventor costs about 8400 euro over here and then there is 1200 euro registration fee every year for support etc.

For my small business and that kind of money I can spend som extra time on VW.

For my partbook I must have a 2D or 3D wiew of all items along with parts list ( Bill of material) I think I need to use detail bubble. Has anyone of you experience here?

I convert all my items in a drawing into symbols and give it a part number.

Is it possible, when you are making a detail bubble and you end by pointing on an item (the bubble seem to recognize it is an object) in the drawing,to let the bubble recognize the symbol and pick up its part number and description so you do not need to hammer that for every item into bubble info??

  10. Hi Pat. Thank you for your answer.

I?m designing and drawing fish processing machines which I also need to make partlists for. I?m experimenting with "bill of material" option in VW. I

do all my drawings in 3D but still need to use 2D drawings (.dwg) to send to my suppliers for watercutted material etc.

I?ve been advised that if I transfer and open my 3D drawings in Iventor, then .SAT format is my best option. But by doing that I get no VW history for the imported objects.

I started using VW 8 some years ago because it was the only program I found for the mac which I am still using.

In few words I need to put my design into drawing - use drawings to make: partslist and export drawings to cnc machines.

    best regards: Bjarmi
