  1. Thanks Jeffery - I have selected that option. I am in the UK - am I best to ring the UK distributor about this? Or are there any other steps I can try? Thanks, Andrew
  2. Thx cupsd runs ok, but cupsd -f timesout. Filename is EMBL_2010 v010.vwx so that should be ok? How do I check for incompatible fonts?
  3. Thanks Pat - Tried all of those except re-installing VW - which I will try later this morning as I have to go to a meeting. I'm afraid none of them worked!! A blank new file doesn't cause problems, so it must be something to do with the file I am working on?? For some reason, I suspect the Callouts I have made into Keynotes. They have been behaving oddly. Numbers not referring to the correct note and on one Viewport the first Keynote I entered showed up as 1, and the second as 8. Keynotes 2 - 7 then appeared in the legend and were referring to callouts on other viewports. Thanks for all, Andrew
  4. Apologies for multi-posting, but I can't even open the last 2009 version of the file before conversion. Going in to edit viewport annotations causes the crash. Odd because I have been working on the file for a couple of days before the crash started happening.
  5. Have been doing some more work on this - still success though and can't edit the viewport crop. This is what I have tried to see if I can fix it : - Trashing preferences - Deleting all viewports and recreating them. The first time I make a new viewport, going in to edit annotation causes the crash. - Tried not displaying planar / screen objects on the viewport creation dialogue. Will try going back to my last 2009 version and reconvert it (don't have 2009 installed on this machine) Any other suggestions?? Thanks, Andrew
  6. It was originally 2009. I have managed to open the viewport annotations, as when the file first converted my keynotes were all incorrectly referenced. However I realised that an update of both the keynote legend and the viewport itself fixed that. The problem has only occurred since then. Andrew
  7. Hello Anyone else having regular crashes upon editing a viewport annotation? A file I have always crashes when doing so (am running on Snow Leopard). It doesn't matter which Viewport I edit - it happens to all of them. My viewports have lots of callouts placed as keynotes - if that is relevant. Any help much appreciated. Andrew
  8. Hello Jeffrey - Thanks for this. Just been fiddling with 2010 today and found a few of those features. Surprised it is not possible to have the date inserted automatically still. Thanks, Andrew
  9. Thanks chaps (again) Spoke to my vendor - he is emailing me the sn tomorrow. Regards, Andrew
  10. Good point re: licences. As I have bought an upgrade - maybe that means I don't own a licence for 2009 & 2010. Hmmm..
  11. Hmmmm.. Annoyingly I have just sat down to install 2010 (as an upgrade from 2009) and realised that no serial number came with the box. Have tried putting my old serial in (starting with a B - I use a dongle) and it doesn't work. Should I have received a new serial number?? Thanks, Andrew
  12. Thanks Kool Aid - So - how do I do it without running a command - ie as an object? Thx, Andrew
  13. Hello - Is there a way of attaching the name of the current sheet to a text field in the title block? VW2009 / Spotlight Thx, Andrew
  14. Thanks Ray - appreciate your help. Assume that's the same for OS X - seeing you're on Windows. I've got plenty of disk space, so will install it alongside 2009. Cheers, Andrew
  15. Hello - Haven't upgraded yet, but have ordered my copy of 2010. Would it be sensible, or even possible to install 2010 alongside 2009 ? Just in case any of my existing 2009 files don't open correctly. Or is it worth doing that at all?? Thanks, Andrew
  16. I know how you feel as I have been in this position before. All I can suggest is to keep on showing willing, and above all interest in the projects that are going on around you. Sometimes try a bit of false flattery - you know "Wow - that looks great, I love the way you do the...." If people see that you're looking up to them, they are more likely to get you involved as they won't feel threatened. Hope this helps - good luck. Just stick at it. Andrew
  17. Thanks Ian - Just ordered a copy. May get it next week or the week after. Andrew
  18. Good topic, and I too am always on the look out for a better way of organising my drawings. I work in events. The way I have settled on though, is to use layers for items such as : Building Seats Truss Lighting & Sound Scenic and classes for objects such as chairs Steeldeck Treads Graphics Florals I then tend to set classes options to show/modify all but only work with show others in layer options - depending on what I am working on. I also try and keep layers, if possible, to what each supplier is providing - I can then send them what I want, with other layers grayed out. Much as JBenghiat suggested. It's important for me to use layers and classes equally Hope this helps? Andrew
  19. Hello - Anyone know roughly how much an upgrade to 2010 from 2009 would be (Spotlight & Renderworks) and when it is available here in the UK? I like the look of the event planning features and being able to use it under snow leopard - but what is the general consensus - worth upgrading? Andrew
  20. Thanks Michaelk That helped a lot - thank you. I simplified the chair symbol dramatically and it has done the trick. Shame though, as my 3d renders don't look as good - but have now put the original symbol on a separate class and set that to render in 3d viewports. Am surprised a "simple" render mode like that takes so long though. Thanks again, Andrew
  21. Hello all - Have been using the Unshaded / shaded polygon rendering modes which are giving me the style I am after for my 2d plans. However, my drawing includes a seating block, created with the seating layout tool in Spotlight. The seats render fine in Open GL, Renderworks etc. but in Unshaded or shaded polygon modes, VW grinds to a halt. Can't stop the render and even when it finishes, just clicking on the viewport causes VW to eat up 100% of CPU again. Everything works just fine when the seats are hidden or set to "Draw layout lines only" I realise that seats are very complicated things for VW to render, but it seems to work ok in more detailed render modes. Any tips ? It's no great deal, as I would only use shaded polygons in 2d top/plan views - but I would like to show the outline of the seats. Thanks, Andrew
  22. ahh.... Many thanks Pat - I suddenly feel like a fool. Have just added a crop object to the viewport and notice that I can resize the view that way too. Making the crop object wider than the existing view increases the perspective. I'd be interested to know how more experienced VW users go about presenting their drawings. Do you use cameras ? (as I had done with this particular viewport). How do you go about creating viewports of 3d views ? Is it better to set the 3d view how you want it on a sheet layer, then do "view-create viewport" and save that on a design layer ? I'd love some sample files of 3d drawings - do you know where I can download any ? Many thanks again - this forum is proving to be a great help. Andrew
  23. I'd love you to have a look at it Ray - thanks so much. Have shrinked the file down as much as possible to get the file size low. One sheet layer is left REN004 which has the offending viewport crop. Really appreciate this Many thanks, Andrew
