  1. Sorry - think I worked it out. My decal image file size was too big. 1.5MB Of course, it would have been far too difficult for VW to warn you if you are trying to use an image that is too big. For a ?2k application - VW has by far the worst user experiences I have ever come across. It is getting so left behind it is unbelievable. Andrew
  2. Hello - I have a brand new file which I am experimenting with decals on. However VW is regularly crashing. Has anyone else experience of crashing problems when adding decals (and editing with the attribute mapping tool) ? Thanks, Andrew
  3. Hello - Does anyone know how I can edit the font / size of the revision history as part of a standard title block. Have managed to edit the title block symbol - that's fine - I just can't find where to edit the revision history bit. I've reduced the size of the title block using the scale factor option in the info pallette - but there is no way to alter the revision history scale factor. Many thanks, Andrew
  4. Hello - Does anyone know how I can edit the font / size of the revision history as part of a standard title block. Have managed to edit the title block symbol - that's fine - I just can't find where to edit the revision history bit. Many thanks, Andrew
  5. Hi I have an odd problem. Have applied a renderworks texture to a wall. It doesn't show the texture when viewing the wall on a design layer - but if I make a viewport crop of the wall in question, the texture shows up. Spent hours trying to work out why my texture wasn't being shown. Any ideas why the texture isn't visible when on a design layer ? Thanks, Andrew
  6. Hello all Just wondered if there was an expected release date for VW 2010 SP1 I had a crashing issue a couple of weeks ago - and the distributor here in the UK did say a service pack was due out in a couple of days. Andrew
  7. I'd like to see the ability to link a camera view to a viewport. It's often easier to set up a 3d view with a renderworks camera. You can specify and alter the location of the camera / height etc. You can then make that view into a viewport but once that's done, the camera is redundant. I'd like to be able to alter the camera view and gave that alter the viewport also. Andrew
  8. Update - Camera Match is now compatible with VW 2010
  9. How do you make a viewport from a camera view? Does it update if you change the camera view? Andrew
  10. Has anyone tried Camera Match on VW2010? It doesn't say if it supports it or not. Andrew
  11. Update - am getting some odd behaviour with a solid substraction - but only when I add a light. Can't quite figure it out. For some reason it goes transparent. You've helped me enough though!
  12. Ray - that tip really helped - thank you. Am really chuffed with the visual I have just produced. (just hope the bleeding client likes it now!) Camera Match looks good too - hadn't heard of that. Will download it and give it a try. Thanks again, Andrew
  13. Of course! Great idea. Never thought of that. Thanks Ray Andrew
  14. Hello all - Was wondering if I could get some advice - I am not the most creative of people! I have designed a set - which like all my sets is functional and relatively simple to build and tour. I would like to give my client a 3d render / visual of it - so they get a good idea of what they are getting. However, I don't want to spend hours modelling and rendering the venue (it changes anyway) but when I have the set without a room - it looks like it is floating in space and you can't see the scale perspective. What I would like (I think) - is to create a generic white room with a sketch style - so that the background obviously isn't trying to pretend to be a real room. So - question is - do you think making a black and white sketchy, stylised room is a good idea? If not do you have any others and - if that is a good idea, is it possible to apply a sketch rendering style to the background, but keep the actual set as fast RW? Any help much appreciated! Andrew
  15. Hello - Not sure how much of this is a new feature in 2010 - or whether I have just stumbled across it whilst searching for new features, but I like the associative dimensioning (also discovered dual dimensioning - like that too as I work in mm, but a lot of the stock stuff we use in events in in feet). But I don't like how if you accidentaly move a dimension in a viewport annotation, that is dimensioning say a wall, the actual wall moves as well. I just moved the dim out of the way whilst I checked something and whoaa!!! Surely a viewport annotation should be a safe place to work without messing with your drawing? Andrew
  16. I agree re: VW2010 - I like the new features (though am a little disappointed with some of the event planning features in Spotlight - they feel like existing symbols / commands packaged up as something else and renamed - nothing special. Never really got to grips with stacked layers (all my design layers are the same scale) and can't really see the difference between stacked layers and unified view. From the way I use VW - why even have the option of turning unified view off?? I have it on the whole time. But maybe I'm missing something.
  17. Superb responses by the way Ray, Islandmon and Pat. These really help getting to grips with VW. Very much appreciated. Don't know what I would do without you! Can't get answers like this in the manual. Andrew
  18. Ahhh.. thanks. So as hybrid objects, the stage and video screen have 2d & 3d components - whereas the extrudes are only 3d. That makes sense. Why does their behaviour change when becoming a symbol though? Surely whether they are symbols or not they should display the same? What is the best / quickest way of adding the 2d components? Would it be to 'trace' over the 3d objects after choosing edit symbol / edit 3d component? Seems a bit tedious? Thanks for your help. Andrew
  19. Hello - Can anyone explain why the symbol in the attached file is behaving this way? I have drawn a simple stage set - all in 3d. Looks fine in 2d and 3d. As soon as I convert it to a symbol, some of my 3d objects vanish in 2d view (top/plan). They reappear when in a 3d view. Have attached a screen shot showing the top/plan view of the stage before and after being converted into a symbol - and attached the VWX (2010) file. Am sure it is something simple - usually is ! Andrew
  20. Hello - Just to update you, the UK distributor - Computers Unlimited, fixed this pretty quickly for me - or at least identified what the problem was. Deleting the truss - or having it on a layer that is not shown has proved the workaround - just in case anyone else has the same issue. Hopefully it will be fixed soon in an update? Andrew
  21. Me too - mine arrived on Thursday last week. I live in London Andrew
