  1. Downloading now. Early flight to Barcelona (from London) for a recce, so I can fiddle with it on the plane. Looking forward to trying out layer tags etc
  2. Guess I was wrong! Doesn’t look like it is today. I just assumed that as there was no Teaser today it would mean it would be the released today. Oh well Stay safe anyone in the path of that hurricane. Andrew
  3. Did you get to the part where Jim talks about tags? Granted it’s not the same as the folders you suggest, but personally I think it would be extremely useful functionality. For me, preferable to folders or groups - tags for something like this are much more versatile.
  4. Mine there too. This is my eleventh year. Blimey - doesn’t time fly. My money is on tomorrow. Just have a hunch!
  5. Ok. Whose money is on a release of v2019 tomorrow? (Tuesday)
  6. Hey Jim What’s the latest on this? Any change? Thanks Andrew
  7. Or at least a way of escaping out of it. There are similar areas to this in VWX. (accidentally hitting Shift, Command E and rendering the whole drawing whilst just trying to rotate something) where a quick escape would be useful
  8. Would love to see some improvements to Seating Section tool - namely : Consolidate it with the Seating Layout tool (having two similar tools is confusing) Ability to add cross aisles. Currently can limit the number of rows - but that's pretty useless most of the time. I'd like to see an option like "Add a Xmm / ' aisle every X rows" or similar Make the focus point more obvious. Currently only visible (and barely) when in an interactive scaling mode. This must be a killer for beginners Ability to show loci only instead of actual symbol (on the design layer - not within the tool). It is PAINFULLY slow sometimes with big seating layouts Make the "Always redraw section" check box work. Doesn't seem to do anything at the moment. Constantly redraws no matter what Fix the numerous slow downs and odd behaviours. Just 30 minutes of messing about / experimenting with the tool throws up all sorts of odd stuff. Currently waiting for the dialogue box to refresh whilst I type (use actual symbols is unticked). Seems the more you use it in one session - the slower it gets? (just a guess). Been staring at the attached screen shot for about 2 mins? It won't let me update the seat spacing / row space (as they both default to 0 and 0 - the preview window takes forever to re-draw. Does it need to refresh after every key press? Just typing 500 can take 30 seconds waiting for it to update between 5, 0 and 0. Remember settings fro previous session. Generally - if you have lots of seating sections in one document - they would have the same seat / row spacing and maybe limits. These need resetting each time you start a new seating section If after deleting some seats manually (after selecting "Edit Seating") - you click on "update" - the seats are replaced with out warning 😡. Very frustrating. (Update only available if "automatically redraw section" is not selected. Also happens when you re-shape boundary without warning. Surely Edit Seats should be used as a last resort) No point using "Edit Seating" as even a minor change results in your edits being lost. After using "Clip surface" whilst editing the boundary - you are asked if "you want to automatically fill the new area with seats". Slightly misleading if you have clipped the existing poly. Should the message say "re-populate the new area?" or similar? After "Edit Seating" you are asked if you want to re-shape the bounding box. The new bounding box doesn't always help though - doesn't seem to be accurate. Ie - delete some seats manually whilst in "Edit Seating" mode, let it update the bounding box, then click on update (or for some reason "Always Redraw Section" twice) - and the deleted seats re appear. Add ability to create a centre aisle. Currently, if you clip surface through the entire seating section - you lose half the seats. You need to finish the poly just short so that you are not dividing the whole seating section into two. Bit of a work around and not obvious. Personally - a straight forward (ie - not curved) seating layout is much quicker using duplicate array etc and not bothering with this tool. I only use it for curved layouts. Not worth the effort otherwise. Andrew
  9. Well said Kevin. Jim really does a fabulous job I feel well and truly teased!
  10. When I first watched the video I thought - "sounds ok - not massive - but ok" But since then - and when working in VWX - I am beginning to see what a fantastically useful this feature would be. Looking forward to using it
  11. Great thread. I’ve been persevering with the seating layout tools in VW - in fact I find curved layouts almost impossible without. That tool does need some improvement granted (like why it has to re-draw constantly when nothing has changed - drives me mad) - but there are some advantages to it - like automatically showing seating count etc. That said - if you just want a simple “total of all seats” and not sections - that’s really easy to achieve without the seating tools by just using a regular worksheet. I would love to see an overhaul of the seating tool. In fact - isn’t there two? One legacy and one new? I have no idea which is which! Edit : Found this http://app-help.vectorworks.net/2017/eng/VW2017_Guide/EventDesign1/Creating_a_Basic_Seating_Layout.htm It seems that Seating Sections are Spotlight only - would assume they supersede / are better than Seating Layouts? Doesn't this need to be consolidated?
  12. Hi Can any one recommend the best way of mocking up what a projector projecting onto a curve would look like? Mad idea that has been sold into the client. No money to do blended projection etc / mapping so I am keen to show them how it would look. I don't believe texture mapping would work as in real life the image is coming from one source? Any suggestions much appreciated. I am on 2018 with Designer / Renderworks. Thanks, Andrew
  13. Me too. Drives me bonkers. Windows jumping around all over the place
  14. Hi Has anyone had this before? I created a section viewport and rendered in OpenGL. Extrudes - even though they had colours applied - showed black and white. OpenGL options had "Use colour" ticked. I fiddled and fiddled and couldn't get it to work. Then I started a new file - did a quick extrude and another section viewport- and it was working as expected - showing colours. But back in my main file, still no luck. Out of desperation, I re-created the Top/Plan viewport I was using to create the section viewport, and surprisingly it worked. new sections created from that viewport showed the colours. I compared settings between the 4 viewports (the 2 x Top / Plan and the 2 x Sections) and they were identical - yet the Section Viewport from one was black and white. Odd - fixed now - but odd. Anyone got any ideas? Andrew
  15. Great. Good luck with it all. Come back here if you need help at all. Good bunch of people on this forum. v2019 of Vectorworks out soon which will make more use of that graphics card too. My money is on 11th September for release date.
  16. This is a good question. I don’t use Clip cubes much - but will likely start doing so (old habits) I suspect the answer is yes from looking T the video - but we’ll probably have to use standard viewports instead of section viewports. Maybe one for the facebook live tomorrow
  17. I'd be interested in this too - Mike's workaround makes sense - but an out of the box solution would be fabulous.
  18. Hi Platane The Radeon 580 score is the one that refers to the egpu. Our scores are similar for the same box which makes sense. In fact yours is a little low if anything. I’m just surprised that my internal GPU scores the same as the Radeon 580! Geekbench scores for me are a lot better using the black magic box. I don’t recall them now - but will post them here when I can. Andrew
  19. Hmmm - maybe I have a faulty unit Cinebench scores 80.46 with the MacBook Pro internal GPU The BlackMagic scores 76.37.....
  20. I like using this tool with the paint bucket - seems to work a little better for me. Andrew
  21. Having used my Black Magic eGPU for a few weeks now - I am a little underwhelmed. In fact, I have just tried unplugging it as VWX felt sluggish and the built in GPU was working much better. Everything suddenly felt smoother. Not sure if it was just because of a re-boot I did. What's the best way of evaluating GPU performance in VWX? Just moving around a model in OpenGL or is there anything more scientific?
  22. At last! It's Tuesday again! Last one of 2018 - hoping for (another) good one! I'd be happy with just one teaser in 2019 - new UI......
  23. If you can - upgrade the graphics card. The more graphics memory the better. Vectorworks is using the graphics card more and more so definitely worth doing. General consensus is that 16GB RAM is plenty unless you’re running lots of heavyweight apps at the same time. Hope this helps.
