  1. Check your document preferences Raster Render (4th tab) PICT Export: try 72 dpi Printing try 72 dpi then try 144 dpi which is sharper and 4 times longer to render. The dots per inch (dpi) depends on the finel use of the render. click Renderworks Option in same location of document preferences. Try different settings with one simple file. There are many other settings and choices that affect speed including the number of lights in the model, The number of curved surfaces, the number and type of textures, etc. Henry Mac G4, 1.25Mhz dual 768MB ram VWA&R 10.1.2 bought but still testing out VWA&R 11
  2. It looks like the Vectorworks listserv changed format and no longer lets me get on. Happen to anyone else? Do I have to resignup and give another name and password? Henry
  3. I brought my workspace from VW10 to VW11. Now the command I use to make guides, command forward slash, opens internet explorer instead of making a VW guide. (I use safari, not IE). This is only in VW11. So what obvious mistake am I making. Who will fix this with a one line answer? Henry
  4. I was sorry to see that floor objects still do not have 3 textures in VW11 (top, bottom, edges) There are always other ways to achieve a desired result. So how do other users make their textured models without the extra work of adding walls around a slab and adding carpet or ceiling, extrudes or floors? Henry mac G4 1.25 dual, OS10.2.8, VWA&R 11 MY OLD POST: I also posted this in the renderworks area but I guess it was supposed to be in Wishlist area for NNA to see. Floor objects should have 3 texture choices like walls. - A floor texture where you could use carpet or wood for example. - A ceiling texture which would probably be white in most cases. - An edge texture which could be the exterior wall texture. I have always used a thin wall going around floors to get the right exterior wall texture on the model. When I wanted a floor texture I add a thin 3D object on top of the floor. Floor objects having 3 textures would make modelling faster. Henry mac G4 1.25 dual, OS10.2.8, VWA&R 10.1.2
  5. The listed features of VW11 look very impressive. The upgrade order goes in tomorrow. What I couldn't find is a hardware and OS minimum and recommended requirements in any of the literature. Wasted a lot of time looking.

  7. I posted this in the wrong location, so here it is again. 1. When the layer palette was updated a few releases ago (years) I saw the empty spaces below the TOP button and above the BOTTOM button. I assumed the company just didn't have time to add the DOWN 5 and UP 5 buttons. Have time now? 2. How easy would it be to let users have the layer window be a palette which could be left open all the time. Also the class palette. I would do this with a second monitor.

  9. I downloaded a tree from the site mentioned. It is very nice but was 6+MB in VW. It could probably be redone by making a half dozen pine needle groupings and branch types making each a symbol and distributing them around a trunk. That would make it an acceptable size but takes time to do. Henry

  11. The walkthrough tool moves the camera around the model or points a stationary camera in a different direction. move forward - move backwards (cursor up/down) look left - look right (cursor left/right) with option pressed: move up - move down (cursor up/down) look up - look down (cursor left/right) If one more way of moving the camera were added it would be great: move left - move right (perhaps with shift pressed cursor left/right) Also if you could change perspective dynamically within the tool, it would add another level of quick control. (perhaps also with shift key cursor up/down) It took me a while to get the intuitive feel of using this tool but I now quickly navigate around models. I have to use the flyover tool to simulate the missing move right - move left. Henry
  12. I again have the overly long info palette problem. The bottom tabs are below the viewable screen and cannot be moved back. All previously custom made workspaces now also have this problem. I've changed monitor resolution with no luck. Making an all new workspace is a pain. Is this a bug? Any other solutions? Mac 1.25 dual G4; OSX 10.2.8 20" apple flat panel VWA&RW 10.1.2 Henry
  13. David, You can control 6 snap types at any time, while drawing, with the preset shortcut keys, A,S,D,Q,W,E. These contol the constraints palette. You can change these preset keys with the workspace editor. The 6 snap types have many subsnap types you can change also. You must be new to VW. These are basic tools available for a very long time. When I think back, it took me a while to get a feel for the best use of the snaps. Henry
  14. VW10.1 seems pretty good and stable except the snaps are unpredictable, Snap to object often doesn't work in 2D on 2D objects when zoomed out a bit. The ALIGN to object edge seems to overpower the object snap which didn't happen in VW9.5.3. It is usually hard to drag one object to another objects corner. This has reallly slowed down production for me. In the past my troubles with new VW releases were occasionally not learning changes in how the new VW worked. If anyone has insight on how the snaps work differently in VW10.1 I'd like to know. When VW 9 came out it had great features but had such significant slowness in standard operations that I felt it was cost ineffective to use until VW9.5 came out. VW9.5.3 is great and I just might stay with it until more of the bugs are worked out in VW10. MAC 1.25Ghz dual, 768MB ram, OS10.2.4
  15. I downloaded a patched driver PPD for the HP 4MV from a site: http://www.allosx.com/1032414369/ VW10 doesn't crash now when trying to print. Thanks Katie, Henry
  16. I had the same problem. It went away with VWA10.1. but....there is another thing I changed which probably caused the improvement. The computer is 2 weeks old and I just added a 512MB RAM to the the existing 256MB that came with it the same day as VW10.1. If a few applications were open it would mean OS10 is swapping memory on the hard drive slowing things down. (?) I noticed that the get info on VW10 shows a memory configuration as if it were an OS9 application. Why is this? henry MAC 1.25Ghz dual, 768MB ram, OS10.2.4
  17. I also had trouble installing VWA10.0.1. Katie suggested restarting the computer which made no difference. I finally downloaded the updater again and it worked. I have only one registration number so that wasn't the problem. VWA 10.1.0 installed without a problem. VWA10.1 seems to have fixed many problems I was having with snapping and smoothness of mouse operation. The freehand tool in VWA10.0 had jerky movement and left a jaggy object. 10.1 is now smooth. Henry
  18. initial use of VWA 10.1.0 seems to fix the above problems. Thanks NNA Henry
  19. This came up a few years ago and I assumed it would be repaired in future VWA versions. Having just started with VWA10 last week I see it wasn't taken care of. In wood door construction in the USA and Canada a STILE is ALWAYS a vertical member and the horizontal members are ALWAYS RAILS. This applies to window construction also. The way VWA has invented the new definition for rail as a horizontal stile is like calling all beams horizontal columns. I do a little work for a window manufacturer. They think NNA should hire an architect or someone in the building industry who knows these basic terms. An architect I was showing VWA almost wrote off the program as probably not specialized enough for architects because of this simple basic ignoance. Maybe in other english speaking countries other terms are used. That's why there are country specific versions. In any case the USA and Canada are major markets for NNA. Please make the standard door ands window plugin terms correct and if someone wants to have a creative language version they can do it with vectorscript. The only good thing about this is it's not a programming bug. Henry
  20. I believe it would be easy to write a vectorscript to select or assign a particular color. This could go on a custom named palette such as 'my colors'. The name of the each script could be whatever you wanted such as 'really red' or 'grassy green'. (If you want you could assign numbers to the color commands but.......) They could be assigned a keyboard shortcut for each color and therefor chosen by clicking the palette or using the keyboard shortcut. Doesn't his answer the whole thing? I even think this script is already written. Henry
  21. MAC 1.25Ghz dual 256MB ram OSX10.2.4 VWA10.0.0 When printing a simple VW drawing to an HP 4MV 11x17; The first print usually prints OK but the next print sheet attempt crashes VWA immediately. OSX remains OK. The files I've had this problem with are all converted from VWA 9.5.3. I just got the computer and installed VWA10 so have no new VW10 files yet. VWA 9.5.3 is also installed and crashes in the same way when trying to print. I downloaded and installed a new HP4MV driver but that made no difference. I selected all and made sure only one font is used : Times Print as PDF crashes VWA in the same way. No new fonts have been installed. Other programs installed which didn't come with the machine are: - appleworks 6.2.4 - writenow 4 which I only opened once and it was a problem but worked. (To read old files) - safari which I also only tried once. All other programs seems to print OK. Any insight is appreciated Henry
  22. MAC OSX 10.2.4 1.25Ghz dual 256MB ram VWA 10.0.0 (having trouble getting VWA10.0.1 to install) snapping seems not to work predictably in the above setup. example: 1. make a rectangle 2. use constrained dimension tool 3. snap to one corner, top left.... works fine 4. bring cursor to top right corner 5. It is almost impossible to obtain the 2nd snap point. I am completely aware of all the options on the constrain palette and believe I have it right. The first snap works fine. The snap to object selection is on. Is this a known bug? In addition the selection box with the pointer tool seems to hesitate significantly and is inaccurate. I have to wiggle the pointer's location to sort of get it where I want. Has this been discussed already? I couldn't find it. Are these issues fixed in VWA 10.0.1 or 10.1? Thanks, Henry
  23. I downloaded VWA 10.0.1 and ran the installer. It thought for a while and seemed to do something but when I looked at the get info about the application it said it is still VWA 10.0.0. I know VWA 10.1 will be released soon. ? Perhaps that will work. Mac OS10.2.4 on a new Powermac 1.25Ghz dual still only 256 MB. Henry
  24. I've been working on a 12 MB file converted from VWA&R 9.5.3 into VWA&R 10.0 in OSX 10.4.2. After a few hours of seemless work it crashed after trying to print to PDF. Did I miss a note(s) on print to PDF crashing VW? (Should this be a new topic?) Henry
  25. I just got the new dual 1.25Ghz G4 (and new spectacular 20" LCD screen) last week. VWA&R 9.5.3 crashes every time after about 5 to 10 minutes in OSX10.2.3 and after updating to OSX 10.2.4 still crashes in about the same amount of time. VWA&R 10.0 seems to work fine except with a few bugs but this is the first time using VWA10 having bought it a few months ago but held off using till now. I prefer to have both both VW9 and VW10 available for the transition to VW10. I keep all old jobs in the original version until translation is proven solid. With VW9.5.3 crashing I either have to keep old projects on the old G3 266Mhz or translate to VW10 before feeling confident of reliability. The speed of the new computer is amazing. All functions except render are instantaneous. I had gotten used to the G3 lag! The VW10 worksheet editor is instantaneous meaning I'll jump into it to throw in a new shortcut and out again without the previous minute lag. I'll be waiting to hear if VWA&R 9.5.3 runs on my new machine. Henry
