  1. After much experimenting, I've finally found something concrete. I think it's a problem with the relationship between the height and the pitch of the sweep. If the pitch is at least .002" greater than the height, the Split Tool works (in both Line Trim mode and Line Split mode; I didn't try the Point Split mode). Anything less than .002" fails to split. In the file I posted above, there is an additional problem: the original polyline used to create the profile of the sweep still has the six objects used to make the polyline hidden behind. I was unable to do any splitting of the sweep until I recreated it using only the polyline (without the original objects).
  2. Here's the file I'm currently having problems with. One warning: it's been made with the VW education license. As I understand it, if you copy anything from it into a file from any other license, all other items in that file will take on the education properties and that file will always have the VW watermark printed with it. However, as long as you keep all work isolated, you shouldn't have any problems. Any help is most appreciated.
  3. Kevin-- First, thanks for teaching me a new tool (I've been ignoring that thing for years and am now glad to know what it can do for me). I was able to recreate splitting using the same basic shapes that you showed, so I know that I'm using the trim tool correctly. However, when I try to trim my own sweep, the computer takes some time to think about it, then simply doesn't bother to do anything (just returns me to where I was; no message or results). Any suggestions as to why?
  4. After creating a helix sweep (e.g. a barley twist), the ends finish at a point and I want them to be flat; perpendicular to the center-line of the sweep. I've tried using the Subtract Solids command, but always get an error saying "You have tried to create a solid object which cannot be computed." Is there a way to "chop off" the ends of a helix sweep?
  5. Since VW is capable of exporting .stl (stereo lithography) files, I am wondering if it is possible to import them as well (either binary or ascii).
  6. I had the same problem in upgrading from 12.5 to 2009 and Ray Libby's help saved the day. See... http://techboard.vectorworks.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=116430#Post116360 ...for more detail.
  7. I thought drivers were the up-to-date (because the utility from within the device manager told me so). But since you nudged me again, I dug a little deeper. First I used a utility from Intel which told me to check directly with Dell. There was indeed an update and that was just what the doctor ordered. Thanks for the help.
  8. Since I've not yet been able to open 2009, technically there isn't a "last" workspace. I tried removing each of the available workspaces one by one just in case though, but that hasn't worked. I don't know if this is useful, but I still have 12.5 installed. From what I've read in other topics, this shouldn't be a problem, but if this gives anyone some ideas, I'd be happy to try them out.
  9. Still getting the same UBB error.
  10. I'm new to the forum and wanted to change one of my email notification settings. When I click submit, I'm told that my selecction of posts per page is invalid (even though I haven't changed it from the original default of 100). What is the valid range I can work with?
  11. I've been trying tech support this week, but so far, they've not been able to find or fix the problem. Now they've all gone home for the weekend so I thought I'd try my luck with the forum. I've installed VW2009 (educational) and when I try to run it I get as far as the splash screen when a standard Windows dialogue pops up with the message "Vectorworks 2009 Application has encountered a problem and needs to close." I've run 12.5 on this computer with no problems, but am worried that it's not robust enough for 2009. Tech support has not suggested this though, so I maintain hope. Any help would be appreciated.
