  1. Hi bcd When I follow those instructions I get the image below. If I raise the elevation on each symbol by 30 cm its about right, but the symbol does not seem to follow the model grade....
  2. Jonathan are you suggesting to make this road barrier a plant symbol so it will place itself on the surface?
  3. I tried this out bcd and I'm having some issues. I place the 3d object, then rotate/adjust it so that it is sitting on the surface and is level (in relation to the grade), then duplicate along path and all the barriers sit just below the surface as indicated on the attachment. If I can fix the elevation issue this will work wonderfully.
  4. Great advice bcd, thanks to everyone for your valued input.
  5. Thank you Ozzie and Peter. I will give that a try. To answer your question Peter, this is for presentation purposes.
  6. Hello I created a hybrid object, a no post road side barrier. It looks great in top plan view but when I send this to surface and look at it in 3d you can see that the middle of the object has been sent to surface and thus it sinks the one end and elevates the other. I have at least a hundred of these to place along the edge of the model and hope there is a simple fix for this.
  7. Thanks Benson... this section viewport was placed on a design layer not a sheet layer. It does look like some sort of bug and I do hope they "leaves the building". Thanks for your feedback...
  8. Great advice everyone.... Thank you very much.
  9. Hello all I have taken a section viewport of a site model I'm working on. I placed this into a design layer so I can add dimension, etc. The viewport works well in a Open Gl render as seen below, but in a final or fast renderworks mode I get some plant duplications occurring at the top of the screen. Any help would be appreciated...
  10. Thanks to both of you for that insight... great article Tamsin it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.
  11. Thank you Tamsin and Ray. Great advise which I will take with me on the next model. The model started out as 3d polygons, I did not use the simplify 3d polygon command but certianly will next go around. At this point I suppose I could edit source data and perform this? Thank you both again.
  12. Hello I am currently working on a site model which is approx 4 acres in size. The model has evolved over the past few weeks and due to some rendering challenges I upgraded our computer to better meet these needs. I notice that our rendering abilities have vastly improved but I'm having some challenges with updating the site model after changes have occurred (additional pads, textures, etc). With a model of this size do I need more ram to improve performance and stop or reduce the software crashing? I currently have 6GB of ram with a 6 core chip. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
  13. It seems odd that I can assign certain things to a 'new' or custom plant symbol but the tags need to be assigned each time I use this plant? Based on the video I watched ((Building your Planting Plan in Vectorworks Landmark for vw 2012) you could apply tag options which be effective each time you used the plant when using VW Landmark 2012. Anyone aware of how to set a default tag setting for all or some plant symbols?
  14. Thanks for that Jonathan. I do realize tag option is found in the plant settings dialog box. When you save or create a custom plant symbol along with its tag options I would have hoped that whenever I used this my work these settings would carry into a new drawing. The plant symbols are visible in my resource browser (ie Acer griseum) but the tag options that were selected in the original file/library do not appear when placed in a new drawing. I would like to build a plant library with tags that are always visible based on the options selected. I hope that makes sense? I believe you could do this in 2012
  15. So I watched this wonderful video from the VW Service select website. The video(Building your Planting Plan in Vectorworks Landmark for vw 2012) described adding some personal graphical touches to the plant symbols and tags. Once you have made your library and custom tag settings it is easy (in 2012) to use them. Jump forward to 2013 and the plant placement tool has changed a bit. When I go to my resource browser - favorite file which contains the custom plant symbols (ie Acer griseum) I am able to place the plants but the custom tag settings are gone, these settings were part of the custom symbol created in another file I call Woody plants.vxw. It looks like I have to turn on each plant tag via the OIP and customize it.... Hopefully I'm way off base and someone can point me in the right direction. The plant definition box in 2013 does not have any tag options??? Thanks in advance.
  16. No... they are part of a planting plan and their symbols are shown in top/plan view
  17. I have finished off a planting plan and want to generate a plant list with symbols. I have attached a screen shot which shows that some symbols are not being displayed. Any thoughts?
  18. Wow.... Thanks for that. I did not realize you could use this as a site modifer..I will play with that. Thanks
  19. Hi Tamsin VW Landmark 2013 does not seem to have a grade tool. Looks like a grade limits tool is available, it that what you meant?
  20. Just finished a site model which included a warehouse, parking area, retaining walls and driveway. I have had some challenges with pads on this model which match up with neighboring pads. If for instance pad "A" has a slope running north to south and it is next to another pad running east west you end up with a lip as the two surfaces do not meet along the entire edge. See attachment. The slope feature is great, but is there any way to slope pads in multiple directions much like a parking lot surface might flow???
  21. DWorks We switched to mac six years ago and it was one of the best things we did. We sit down and get to work rather than how to make Windows function... that may be a bit harsh, we can still run windows within OSX (it seems more stable) but its is not to far from the truth in our situation.
  22. Thanks for the help everyone... Imac with the i7 chip is looking good.
  23. I guess I should have clarified that we are trying to figure out whether the macpro is worth the extra cost versus imac with its i7 chip.... I am starting to think the imac is more than capable for a 3-4 year life span.
  24. We are upgrading one of our older macs and looking to purchase a macpro. We seem to be using site models more and more in our work and once you start adding textures the resources needed in a computer climb. Question for mac users... how much computer is enough, one quad core, two quad core chips? Thanks for helping.
  25. Thanks Peter that solved this issue....
