  1. I have noticed that my crashes seem to be initiated by my autosave. Has anybody else noticed this?

I have noticed the same thing.

I increased my auto save time from every 10minutes to about every 40 actions.

This means more saves, but seems to crash far less.

Its frustrating 'command-s' brings tears to the eyes when it crashes. I thought 'command-s' was suppose to be safe; not nerve wracking:)

  2. Good Day Everyone,

    Background:

I have set up a 360? interior rendering of a unit in an apartment building. I am using a selected 3D locus as my orbit point. The image has many light objects, and is fairly complex, but we tried to simplify as much as possible. A final quality rendering takes about 10minutes to render with out any interior bouncing. The time on the movie is set to 30seconds and results in 901 frames @ 30 frames a second. (which I dont understand why its 901 and not 900 frames.)

    The Trouble:

Vectorworks keeps crashing. It will render 100 150 frames sometimes more then crashes. Its frustrating because it takes 6 or 7 hours to get that far in then crashes.

We have exported many different types of files at different qualities with no luck. I did manage to get an Open GL animation but its no good to send to a client.

Does any one have any suggestion or has encountered this problem before?

I'm not entirely convinced it is a Hardware issue.

    Thank-you

  3. Can you post a .vwx file with the texture and object (just cut and paste the object into a new file) that isn't cooperating, to better understand the situation. There are a few things it could be, but need more info to see why the problem is happening.

  4. Benson, I like the precision in your method. A little more time consuming (not much) but a much more accurate approach, I've never thought of drawing the individual tiles, I'll keep it in mind for next time.

  5. Because of the curved bottom you need to use a texture on a nurbs surface.

You can use planar objects and hatches for most of the object, except for the curve part. I have attached a simple model for your use.

  6. That would be the same effect as placing the image as the texture for the window glazing. I trying to get reflections from a single object so the widows share 1 common reflection so they all look a bit different, with out texturing every window.

It maybe that a texture on the glazing is what I have to do to get the look in elevation.

This is a PDF file of the elevations I would like to get the windows to reflect the HDRI background. The windows do reflect the HDRI background in the perspectives, I have added a blur to the texture so it isn't so sharp.

  7. Kaare,

    Interesting idea.

I have done the image prop, it does not produce the desired effect.

I also tried placing a dome encompassing the entire project but i cant get the reflections in the window in either elevation, or section elevations.

    Very frustrating.

    Any further ideas?

I was thinking it could be a texture issue but I have had no luck modifying the reflections.

  8. Window reflections, look great with the HDRI background in perspective views.

I would like to get the same look into the elevations and still have the ability to scale the drawing. Any ideas on how to achieve this?

I have attached a simple PDF illustrating more clearly what I would like to accomplish. Any ideas would be great.

    THank-you

PS, I wish the lit fog worked like it use too!! It was a great tool to fade out elevation drawings.

  9. I recently used the decal function in Vectorworks 2011 SP3.

Works really well. So I thought I would post some pictures to show what we used it for!

Used a underlying white texture, then applied 6 different textures.

The Remax ballon, the phone number, the lifestyles text, the blue and red bands, and the image Remax. Also applied the yellow road lines to a slab object! Can't wait to use this in stop signs, and other street objects or scenery objects that can be frustrating to model. Using a decal can be a time savor.
