  1. When using the door & window tools, they both used to automatically class themselves as 'door-main' or 'window-main'. This has randomly stopped, they just stay on the current layer, and I have to manually change them (a real pain!!). It now occurs whether using the architect model setup or not. Any thoughts on how to auto class objects? Thanks! VW 2008 VW Architect

    Sketchup import

    It worked! Thank you.
  3. I cannot get the import to work. The option is avail. in Import>Sketchup, and I can select the file, but no layers, materials etc. appear, and nothing at all occurs when I press OK to do the import. I have Sketchup 7-Free version, and VW 2008 Arch. Any advice? Thanks in advance!
  4. Thanks, your advice is exactly the kind that keeps novices like me from royally messing up an otherwise good drawing! I wish I had noticed your reply before I did the rotation. I didn't use 'group' or the 2D locus, as I didn't know about them, but will absolutely learn them. But the rotation appears to have gone well, at least as far as I can tell ..... Thank you all.
  5. Thanks, guys. I was using the 'rotate plan' tool, rather than rotating 90 degrees. Now I've rotated everything and the viewports are able to update accordingly. I hope this doesn't have any negative effect on alignments etc., but changing the page layout was difficult because we still want to view the plots in landscape, so all dims 7 text would have to be done 90 degrees. Thanks, I appreciate your help!
  6. I have added a garage to my plan that necessitates turning everything 90 degrees to fit on my 11x17 page. "rotate plan" does not translate to the sheet viewports, and if I manually change the page layout to portrait, then dimensioning and notes and all SVP work will be a b****! Any ideas out there? Surely there must be a simple way .... Thanks.
  7. Pat, my original drawing was as you've suggested I do next time, and everything was on correct layers (all 2nd floor objects were at z=8'-ish, etc.), but maybe I had something wrong. I was quite confused. I agree the method of setting floors to z above ground floor ht seems better - particularly because I now can't use the stair tool appropriately. I appreciate your advice.
  8. Thanks, Pat! I think I get it now. I changed the Organization> Design Layer's z back to 0, and it lines up now ... So, therefore the z is not the ground plane, it is the base of EACH layer?! I was seeing it all wrong. I had indeed moved everything twice. You are my savior (and I really shoud get an instructor!) Thanks so much, I tryly appreciate your help.
  9. VW 2008 Architect same issue on all my computers - Vista & XP I am fairly new to VW, and EVERY dwg I have done has this problem, but this time I am sure I have set up all the layers correctly. BUT soon as I move to Sheet layers to do sections/elevations, it's TOTALLY screwed! Nothing is on the right plane anymore. Roof is hanging in the air, floors are floating. The z and delta z and offset in layers are fine, though I tought myself & it took ages to just get things to feel right, maybe I'm wrong. So why is this happening????? This time I'm on a deadline, and I'm in BIG trouble here. Please PLEASE someone help me. Thank you for ANY insight.
  10. I'm having serious issues with printing - namely, I can't. I can print a single square, beyond that the program either crashes or the "send to print" window comes up, then disappears and nothing further happens. I have updated VW, but don't know which HP driver to load (if that is part of the prob) and I'm off HP's warrenty, so they won't talk to me. Please please, I would appreciate ANY comments and suggestions. Thank you. VW 2008 Fundamentals, Architect HP Deskjet 1220c Windows XP Pro (new computer)
