  1. I'm now able to edit the data again, but still have to type double the spacing, height, and spread I need, for example, 72 into the chart to get 36. But any changes to the design, after reimporting the plant list worksheet, is going to wipe out all these custom edited sizes....
  2. I need to show plant growth height and spread due to local codes, so I have edited the plant list worksheet to show that data. However, does anyone know why the size data pulled in from the VW plants database results in the sizes being reduced to 1/2 or more in the plant list in my drawing? A month ago, I was able to manually change those sizes in my drawings plant list to get past this issue, but now the plant list worksheet won't let me. Also, since the planting design and quantities have changed since then, Its my understanding that I have to bring in a new plant list work sheet to get new automatic totals (it ask if I want a new or replace the existing) but then I lose all my manually corrected growth heights and spreads. Are any of these issues a bug?
  3. Within the Resource Browser, it sounds like you clicked on "Resources". Instead, you need to click on the down arrow across from the "Files" first, and then navigate to the path on your applications folder on your hard drive to the Plant Lists.vmx file. Once you do that, the 4 types of worksheets will show up in "Resources". The terminology of the Resource Browser is a bit confusing. And as I understand it, the Resources actually reside inside those Files. Resources can reside in any file - the application's library folder or your other drawing files. By the way, once you find the Plant Lists.vmx file and see the 4 worksheets in the Resource Browser, be sure to go back to the down arrow across from "Files" and click "Add to Favorites". Now the Plant Lists.vmx file will always be there for future projects. You won't have to remember where to find the Plants Lists.vmx on your hard drive. A real time saver.
  4. Thanks Pat. It worked! Just for clarification for others, I dragged the SUM icon to the column header of the Nozzle column. The next column, which has =Count in the header, automatically contains the quantities of each type of nozzle. Thanks everyone for your suggestions to solve this question!
  5. Thom, are you referring to the Irrigation Head Schedule and Irrigation Line Schedule worksheets, or something else? Thanks.
  6. dspearman, thanks. =Count did count, except that when I brought in the irrigation head schedule worksheet, the chart shows one row for each and every instance of each head nozzle, with a count of 1, instead of the quantity that each different head nozzle was used in my drawing. Perhaps the irrigation head schedule worksheet is intended to only be an itemized list, instead of quantity totals similar to plant lists? Quantities would be helpful for cost estimates and contractor's bidding.
  7. Can VW08 count irrigation head symbols to give totals per each type of nozzle in the standard Irrigation Head Schedule Worksheet? In plant list worksheets, the formula is ='Plant Record'.Quantity but =('Irrigation Head'.Quantity) only results in 0. (I don't understand why all the irrigation formulas all have brackets but it doesn't seem to affect the results). Thanks.
  8. How do I custom edit irrigation symbols? I've duplicated the library file (to create Rainbird heads from the default Toro), went to the resource browser, right clicked an irrigation head, clicked Edit, clicked Edit 2D component, which brought up the Edit Symbol window. After I changed the Head Scale Factor in Object Info, it appears that I can only add to the symbol graphics (such as tick marks to graphically differentiate between 10, 12, and 15 series heads). Here is what I would like to do: 1. Change the head symbol from a circle to a square for all the strip heads. 2. Move the end strip head symbol from the center of the spray pattern to the end of the pattern where it actually belongs. 3. Create Rainbird right corner and left corner strip heads. It appears that I can ungroup the head object, with a warning "Are you sure you want to ungroup high-level objects?" After clicking Yes, I am finally able to fully edit the symbol, but now, all the head's object data is gone. How can that data be added back in? (I see that Modify/Create Symbol will create a new head, but without the original irrigation object data). Thanks.
  9. Thanks Mike. In VW2008, those symbols all have Toro data. Does Rainbird exist somewhere? Or only in 2009?
  10. Thanks Eric! That sounds like a very useful tool in VW2009! For groundcovers, I typically used hatches instead of drawing every plant at 12" or 18" (in AutoCAD) in order to simply the look of the drawing. The ability place the plants for calculation purposes and still apply a hatch will be great feature.
  11. Thanks Mike! They were 'only' set to only 18 point, relative to the design layer. 500 pt is much better (via the Set Size menu which gives a choice of Points, Page Millimeter, and Page Inches). However, it appears that these plant tags are not movable and can only be set to right, left, (starting on top of the middle of the symbol) or none.
  12. VW on-line help says, "A generic irrigation head can be inserted into the drawing with the Irrigation Head tool. Alternatively, use an irrigation head from one of the irrigation object libraries." Where it the irrigation object library? I've found 2 libraries, one in the VW application folder and the other in user/application support/Vectorworks/2008, but it doesn't appear to be there, unless nested deeply somewhere. Also did a search via the resource menu/find but in a search for irrig, it only found the pipe symbols and a blank head schedule.
  13. Can I create an irrigation worksheet chart with head symbols and all the technical data, like a head legend? Currently, I have this in Autocad format (just a text layout, not a real data chart).
  14. Why are plant tag labels microsize? They are only 1/8" tall in the design layer and look like plant center dots! Sheet layer viewport is 1"=10'. I tried changing scales of the design layer but that had no affect. Or is the tag for information only and you have to manually type callout to the plants?
  15. Can groundcover (hatched polygon areas) be linked to plant list worksheets? Otherwise, the plant doesn't show up in the worksheet because the groundcover plant was not inserted as a symbol. The result is that I have to type the plant data manually in the plant list worksheet. If the answer is yes, is there a way to automatically convert the SF of the polygon's area to number plants? If that could happen, when the polygon area is adjusted, the SF and # of plants would automatically update in the plant list.
  16. How can I organize plant lists by categories so that Trees are first, followed by Shrubs, Groundcovers, etc, and all with a subtitle. There was another post about this topic but I'm unable to find it again. It involved typing in a custom formula in the Data Base Headers rows.
  17. When I added a custom field to my plant list worksheet, why does the data from the VW database not show up in the plant worksheet properly? Growth Height (='Plant Record'.'Height') should be 24 - 36 In, but the result is only 24. Growth Spread (='Plant Record'.'Spread') should be 36 - 48 In, but the result is just 36. The plant list worksheet strips out everything after the 1st number. The same thing happens for plants that are measured in feet, 3 - 4 FT becomes just 3 and can be confusing without Feet or Inches. I tried changing the cell's formating to Text or General but that had no effect.
  18. Thanks for the tip Ian. I looked at the data tag of the object info palette and it does not match the data that I entered for the new plant in the VW database. This plant didn't exist so I (1) changed the name of a General Plant in Edit Definition, (2) went to Get Plant Data, (3) Opened VW Plants, (4) created a new plant record with my project number, (5) created the plant list, (6) dragged the my custom plant list layout from the resource browser into my file. The result is my plant list's custom growth height and growth spread fields do not match the Plant Data in my file, nor the VW plant database. What am I doing wrong? Is it step (6) above? An older techboard item said that there is no way to update plant lists, and when you add plants, you have to create a new plant list and "when you are back in Vectorworks, you can load this plant list". How do you load? A search of VW help didn't reveal anything. I just double checked my plant definition/plant data, and now it does match the VW database! Now (only) my selected project's plants from the VW database plant list creation are listed in the Get Plant Data window. (strange, that didn't happen after many attempts yesterday). However, these new plants and their data still don't show up properly in the plant list on my sheet layer. How do I update/load the actual plant list?
  19. Ian, it works! Thanks! The columns did not seem moveable to re-arrange them, but I was able to insert new blank columns, and then copy and paste the header title cell and header code cells. But where do I find all the actual field names of the database? I found some by inserting all 4 types of plant list objects and using your above suggestions to identify some coded cell names, but some of the fields are not listed there. New related problem: For Growth Height, I used: ='Plant Record'.'Height' . But when the database says 18 - 24 IN, the plant list says 12.008 For Growth Spread, I used: ='Plant Record'.'Spread' . But when the database says 24 - 36 IN, the plant list says 15. This makes no sense. I changed the cell format from General to Text, but that didn't change anything. Any suggestions? And when I typed in ='Plant Record'.'User Comments 1' for a new column, the plant list did not pull in my custom text from Comments 1 in the database.
  20. Can I create a custom plant list worksheet (such as ID, Qty, botanical name, common name, installed size, mature width x height, form, and other data from the plant database)? Vectorworks comes with four plant list work sheets objects but they do not appear to be editable. Thanks.
  21. When I print a sheet layer to pdf (and also to an HP 1220c), any referenced design viewport layers that are set to 'gray' visibility lose all text in the pdf file and print, even though the text is gray on the screen. Only the linework prints gray. It there way to also print text in gray? I've tried changing the gray level printing setting anywhere from 1% to 99% and still no text. However, If the layer visibility is set to 'on', both linework and text prints in black. I'm using the Batch print option to change the color linework and text to black white. Thanks.
