  1. Thanks. I actually had to go ahead and book, but should be able to stay until at least lunch. Will miss the architecture tours and what not and maybe the last break out session. Brain will probably be fried anyway!
  2. Been poking around but haven't seen any more detailed schedules. Are there any updates? Specifically, what is on Wednesday afternoon since I need to get up to Minnesota for a Project. Thanks.
  3. When you see me, you'll see I really like them all, Uno's, Giordano's, Lou Malnati, etc. Perhaps my favorite is "Whatever is closest." I only get back once a few years or so, although I am close to signing a project up in Milwaukee, allowing me a bigger chance. Actually hoping I schedule my first visit at the same time and let them pay the air fare.....
  4. Sounds great. Going to sign up for Monday. Sounds like the Storm Water topic will be one of the 1 hour break out sessions the next few days. Will be good to meet Jonathan and Tasmin, having seen many of their videos. As a fellow Texan, have worked with Francois and will be good to see him again, as well. As a former Chicagoan, I will also be mapping out my food routes, which start with Chicago Style Hot Dogs, Deep Dish Pizza, and the old Berghoff, a German restaurant on the lower level downtown.
  5. Have been considering attending, and less than a month to sign up for a bit less, so I have some questions. You have a partial speaker list that seems to need updating, and you have a schedule. Any idea which speakers listed and topics are in the optional training sessions on Monday, and the schedule of the break out sessions. Apologize in advance if I am missing something, but they don't seem to appear on the VW Summit website. For example, when is Bryan Goff's Storm water session?
  6. The file bloat thread got me thinking about simplify poly tool. I use it a lot, but basically did trial and error to see what looks good, i.e., good smoothness over lower points. I understand the "maximum distance" method okay. I tested several landscape, free form shapes from 1/4 to 4 Acres, plus a few contour lines (all drawing in polyline, converted to polygons) It seems like the vertices on the polygons come in spaced anywhere from 0.5-2 feet apart. One polygon had a perimeter of 2875 feet, and 2875 vertices. Its a matter of picking how much straightening you can tolerate. My visual tolerance before they become too blocky is about 5-10 feet, depending on shape complexity. My question is, how does VW calcuate "Maximum Deviation" and what does it mean? I tested the same area polygons and it seems like the max deviation was like 0.25-1' max to get the same result.....
  7. When I have had similar problems, it has been because I didn't simplify the polys enough, so you might select some contours to see just how many points they have. As someone explained, to the degree you can stand less rounded contours, each line is better with dozens of points than hundreds, and hundreds is much better than thousands.... And, it can be site objects, like planting bed borders as much as just contour lines. Sometimes, I managed to create a lot of duplicate items, which I still don't understand why. You could select a line, delete and see if the same line shows up underneath, or run a purge duplicates command. Not sure if this helps, but I have always had similar problems.
  8. Actually ended up offsetting, making it solid, moving to back, and letting the other shape sit on top. Works for rendering, will probably need to clip surface if this rending gets to CD so I don't have the additional quantity..... Not sure why I couldn't have figured it out, at least the easy rendering way.....
  9. Ok, thanks. Tried first method and will try the second to eliminate some steps.
  10. Looking to put an edge on some of my landscape design shapes, like lawns, etc., for rendering purposes. Using a wide single line overlaps the main object and must be offset. Wondering if there is a way to copy, paste in place and convert to a double polygon, which would be a solid fill? Or any other technique others may have used?
  11. Miguel, If there is any HSW issues I do defer to an engineer. But for my work, I was trained at college how to use the rational formula, and have used it all my 39 year professional career to do my own drainage on my golf course and park work. It's mostly golf courses and I have never had my drainage questioned.....well once I did, and the engineer came back with only a few (good) mods to the plan. I even prefer to rough out things like detention basins using the modified rational formula in my prelim designs, rather than wait a few weeks to see what size area I need. Much easier if I get it close to right before sending it over to an engineer. These days, when temporary ponding is encouraged at catch basins for detention and sediment/runoff quality, even if I undersize something, its a net benefit, LOL.
  12. I've had similar problems, and seeing your example, I wonder if it is meant to work on corner vertexes? Maybe use curve vertex, but not Bezier? In addition, I often get a message that there are not enough points to create a plant line and wonder what that is all about, given there are dozens of points on my Bezier line. Also, just crashed VW 2016 playing with the vegetation and plant line tools.....
  13. This hasn't happened in a while, but am starting to get a copy of all files in the un-openable .lck format in the folders where I save VW drawings. Not sure why this has popped up, but it is annoying. Any reasons why this just started? Been on 16 for a while and didn't change any settings I know of. Thanks.
  14. Does it calculate site drainage, using rational formula or similar? Thanks.
  15. Hippocode, Thanks. In reading the short blurb on the website, I can't tell if its for building related piping only, or if it could be adapted for larger site drainage, a la, the rational formula or something similar. Will look forward to the announcement and more info.
  16. Remember that thread. Looks like the links are all gone now, so I gather nothing ever came of it.
  17. Not quite sure, but one of the VW staff may have hinted that LM 2017 or later might have some kind of drainage package added at request of many.....wouldn't be above a hint confirmation from a Jim W type...... And, if you are working on it, I volunteer to help put the package together! Very needed, at least IMHO.
  18. Question same as title....taking a quick look and some say integrate with "CAD Packages" but the only specifics are ACAD. Thanks in advance for packages, and if possible, opinions.
  19. Seem to crash when I use "Use Default Settings" in the attribute palette. Any explanations would be appreciated, since I often draw stuff, change it to the class I want. Changing to a class and using defaults shuts it down every time.
  20. Well, quit was in the all menu folder, but not in the file tool set, so I moved it over and all seems to be well. Never had that problem before.....thanks.
  21. Jim, Yes, it was imported from 2015 before I wanted to modify some short cuts. I didn't try to move or change the quit command. I found "quit" under the all file menu as you suggested, so it seems to be there. Please advise. Thanks. However, I sense a reload coming!
  22. Trying to modify my VW 2016 Workspace. Can't close the dialog box because of a message saying "The following menu item is missing: "QUIT" So, I can't save my changes. Any ideas why this is happening? Thanks in advance.
  23. Updated to SP2. As mentioned, editing workspace slows it down, then crashes. Also, simple tasks like "Use Default Attributes" on an object when assigning to a class crashes it every time, pre and post SP1 and SP2. Not sure why such a basic task would crash it?
