  1. I wonder if setting all the viewport crop objects to a single class then turning it on & off would 'reset' them. I typically have them as None with a 0 line weight.
  2. Hi Chris, Modify\>Convert>Convert to Group Then Modify>Ungroup will work for you. It could also be that the information is in a locked group. In this case, right click on it >Unlock Modify>Ungroup.
  3. Thanks GWS, that did it. I knew I'd seen a video of it somewhere, just drew a blank- good to know thanks. The funny thing is - without a crop object I found it impossible to click-select or double click to edit the viewport, Alt-Drag and Drag Marquee to select work and its position can be edited in the OIP. Also, there seems to be no way to drag it in the Z direction to adjust the elevation (although again OIP Z edits are recognized) Finally, my crop object seems to calculate as a planar graphic on the new plane but then draws as a screen object, meaning the crop object doesn't 'stick' with the viewport contents and any non-normal view produces anything from unintended cropping to complete loss of the viewport contents.
  4. I know I should know this one, but how do I make an externally referenced DLVP stand up. I'm referencing a section of a building and want it to live parallel to the XZ plane rather than to the XY plane.
  5. It sounds like you want your fillet to sweep 180? whereas the tool will only produce 90? arcs. You need to fillet from top edge to left edge 90??then from left edge to bottom edge 90? with the fillet radius being 1/2 the height of your rectangle which must be < its width.
  6. Thank you MBorik for sharing your questions & process. It's vey informative & useful. btw Designer sounds less patronizing that "Designer Guy"
  7. I'm not doubting you, just letting you know that for me, in 2011, in orthogonal views 3d objects align using 2d align or in any view using 3d align.
  8. Au contraire! Front view - cmd =, select 2 extrudes & align to top, should work for you. I don't seem to use Align 3d as I'm normally happy with all but one of the coordinates.
  9. I view the objects in an orthogonal views and Align 2d, or Group the object sets and use OIP values to set their position
  10. Select your light (sun) - is cast shadows ticked in the OIP?
  11. In Wireframe look at the entire scene in Side View. You can drag your sun object to be outside the building.
  12. I wonder if there is a good reason why it's not possible to select the center of rotation of a 3d object or 3d symbol when attempting: Duplicate Array>Circular Array for all views except Top/Plan view.
  13. You need to turn on 'Use Shadows' in the View>Rendering>Open GL Options if you are rendering in Open GL
  14. I'm running 12.5.3 on 10.6.6 without any issues. The first thing I'd do is update to 12.5.3 You might find the issue magically disappears.
  15. If you go to the Section Viewport OIP. Advanced Properties Attributes Un-check "use attributes of original objects" and select as Attribute Class "Section Style" you should have it.
  16. 3d symbols will insert as drawn. If this 3d symbol is drawn incorrectly then edit it, Select All, Group, Modify>Rotate 3d, Move to the correct z value and exit. If you are using VW 2011, 2d symbols can be placed on any plane, so be sure you are in front view when inserting a front view symbol and the Plane selection in the OIP is set to 3d rather than Screen. If you are using an earlier version of VW and your symbol is 2d you will need to convert your 2d symbol to a 3d object and rotate it to taste. More information re. your symbol & software will be helpful.
  17. You need to have 'show grid' enabled to see the axis in Top/Plan
  18. Thanks for that klinzey, I'll explore this further - from first look it doesn't seem to change the hanging angle for the truss-lighting position for me but perhaps I'm missing something.
  19. Would the 'allow extensions from nearby smartpoints' option in the smart cursor settings palette get you close to what you need? Just hover over a relavent locus point to make it 'near'
  20. No, but you can export an Quicktime VR object from VW. Nemetschek Allplan has done 3d pdfs for a few years from what I can gather.
  21. I think it's confused by the 12' 1/2" z value and is reading it somewhere as 12.5", 12'1/2"-12.5"=11', I don't know where the error is but perhaps if you re-set all you z and delta Z values to 0 and then back again you might get the software to reset the values correctly.

    Have you checked Lit Fog?
  23. Tell me it's not me, but while the Space Tool has become highly developed it now possesses the most bizarre peculiarities. To name just two; Undo. A new document, a new space - drag to move. All lovely. Now try to undo. It's not possible without first performing a view-change dance! Label Rotate. Works fine for rotations ≤ 90?, above that it just flips the fields.
