  1. url=file:///Applications/Vectorworks 12.5/VWHelp/index.html
  2. It's not that it can't get there it's that once it does Firefox can't open it. A lame fox I guess.
  3. If you set Safari to be your default browser you will be able to view the VW 12.5 help files. VW12.5 help doesn't seem to be speaking to Firefox 4.0 either (perhaps a plugin or addon is needed)
  4. HI Simon, Welcome to the fora, What you're seeing is normal behaviour - anything in your file will still be there when you save it as a template. If all you want it to save the Document Setup, Units, Page size, Classes & Layers Resources etc but no drawing objects then delete everything on each layer and Save as Template - This clean Template file will be ready for your next project. Good luck!
  5. Also works for me in 2011 - Have you tried Unchecking the Use at Creation selection of the Class - probably worth a try.
  6. If you draw a Polyline then Modify>Objects from Polyline = Wall will do the curvy part for you.
  7. Have you tried Cut then Paste in Place?
  8. I can't fathom why moving the origin causes VW so much anxiety, it's a simple translation. What hope is there for developing complex surfaces if this is so difficult? Didn't I read somewhere of the benefits of moving the origin, something where the coordinate system/ dimensions on a Swiss building site references a global origin or something? I do agree, it shouldn't be possible to move it accidentally. Should at least have a push-and-twist cap. I always considered that the Cmd 9 shortcut was way too dangerous.
  9. L invokes the Split tool. The locked object information is incorrect - probably a bug It looks like there's an issue with the vertices, but if you slice off the very tip L) you will successfully be able to shell the surface. (You need to reverse the normal if you want to shell the inside)
  10. Try duplicating it and Slice a piece off using the L shortcut. If you can shell this piece then it's probably just a case of the roof being too complex, you could try shelling it in pieces then add together.
  11. Would editing the 3d component of the plant symbol work for you? Modify>Rotate>Rotate 3d, perhaps 70? about the x-axis, being sure to keep it the alignment with the 2d component correct.
  12. Why not place all the plants at the base of the wall and then distribute their z height.
  13. If your Apple-MBP, Dell, HP is affected by this class action suit in the US today is the last day to stake your claim. It looks legitimate to me but as with anything online you can't be sure. www.nvidiasettlement.com My hesitation is that Apple already replaced the logic board on my MBP for free and I'm assume a new GPU was also installed but can't be sure. I do still have some scrambled or blank screens on rare occasions. Is anyone else taking it up? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
  14. Hi ERK, 1-5) - The tiles cannot cut each other off in this way. You need to use a third object (eg a duplicate, column) or as you suggest, the split tool in Top/Plan view. If you duplicate your tiles then Model>Intersection you will have a column which you can modify in the OIP to give you your 1/8" 2) The line you draw when using the Split tool determines the angle of the split. Yours was drawn at 45? 1) Work on a getting a single tile correct then duplicate array will work for you. You might like to Modify>Convert to Symbol first. 3) Using the Modify>Move command in any view that is not orthogonal gives expected unhelpful results. Use the Modify>Move>Move 3d command instead. 4) Shift 1 to active the Set Working Plane tool, use the 2nd mode, click on the center of your plane of interest and then click the little eye at the top to view the new Working Plane head on. 5) See 1 above. Create Symbol. 6) Observe the 3d z value of your Symbol. It's usually useful to Edit the Symbol so that it's bottom-z = 0. Then when you come to place it the Bottom Z value in the OIP will make sense. It's odd but not all 3d objects all have a Bottom-Z value - your tiles however are Grouped - Ungroup them or Edit the Group and you bottom Z-value will be available. Placing a 3d Locus - Locking it - and Modify>Align>Align/Distribute 3d is a useful way to get 3d objects to exactly where you need them.
  15. You can reference an external file using Design Layer Viewports (eg your survey file) This DLVP can be positioned rotated and locked into position. or conversely - Reference your Building Model file as a DLV into your file containing your site, rotate, position and lock it.
  16. Probably - however the Polyline doesn't have a paint-bucket fill mode. Here today Polygon tomorrow.
  17. There are so many ways to do this - it's hard to suggest just one. If you like lines then just go ahead and draw them all being sure to connect or overlap the corners. Once the perimeter is complete press 8 on your keyboard to select the polygon tool, Toggle to the paint bucket mode by pressing U Click within the perimeter of your house to create a polygon representing the exterior wall. Delete your lines. The polygon can be used for the creation of walls / the roof / an extrude to represent the house as a block or a Massing Model. Notes: Draw in Top/Plan view Using the Move or Offset tool or editing the position of a duplicate line in the OIP can be very handy. OR press just press 9 and begin drawing your walls pressing tab to enter the length etc.
  18. should have taken that bet before you checked
  19. A simple workaround is to change the Document Settings>Units to m (or feet etc), create the property line then change the Document Settings>Units back to mm, feet & inches etc. The dimension style used at creation will stick with the property line. All that's really needed is for the Property Line tool to recognize custom Dual Dimensions.
  20. Thanks for that Chis, very generous of you, - it's a pleasure.
  21. One way, If you select your object of interest and press ctrl 6 it activates the Zoom to Fit command
  22. Whether by bug or design Gradients and Image Fills don't observe the Layer Color setting.
  23. Layer colors are useful to simplify the look of your drawing either during creation or output - via the Use Layer Colors preference setting or the Viewport Layer Override respectively. eg. a Show file may have several layers Venue, Scenic, Lighting, Rigging etc. Objects on each layer will each have their own attributes (color, lineweight etc) which are useful to identify them when working on a particular layer. however, at some point it can be helpful to view everything on say the rigging layer in one color helping it pop against other layers. This can be useful during the design and also at output making it easier to visually comprehend a densely populated drawing. Having the Layer Color preference available via the Quick Preference Menu makes turning it on and off a snap.
  24. A PDF will not be visible on a grayed layer. You can however change it's opacity in the AP to create a similar effect. or In modify the layer opacity via the Viewport Layer Override in the OIP
  25. Nice one Chris, Your method also allows the creation of horizontal section viewports - which, afik, isn't possible in a design layer.
