  1. Yes,from the help: To create a multi-line field, append a pound sign (#) to the field name, as in Drawing Title#.
  2. Have you restarted the computer?
  3. Rather than entering Edit Viewport>Viewport Crop it would be great to be able to draw a polygon over the viewport and select it and the Viewport and for example right click Add Surface to edit the Crop. The Crop is after all a simple Screen Plane Polygon. Then the View Controls that are possible in the current Edit Viewport 'space' could be more appropriately named Edit View or some-such. (there's a slight hint of deja vu about this...hmm)
  4. sorry - I had to laugh at the silly impulse- "then don't select the viewport" Seriously- what you could try is selecting the viewport using the marquee mode of the selection tool rather than clicking on it, then delete it. If this doesn't work I'd see if a Select All works, if it does then it could be an issue with the OIP trying unsuccessfully to populate. You can bypass this by selecting two or more differing objects. Say a dummy rectangle and the offending viewport. Try this by holding Alt while dragging across the viewport & rectangle. Then delete both. If this works then you can re-create the Viewport. Hope this helps
  5. I think we need more information. VW 2009 or 2011? What would you like it to be? Are you viewing in Top/Plan or a 3d view? Is the view rendered? Which mode? Is it in a class Site Modifier whose fill is set to brown? Is a texture attached to it? Can you provide a screenshot / file to illustrate the issue? Thanks
  6. 'Getting Finished Guide', LOL!
  7. Help me out here DWorks, I'm not feeling especially clever this morning!
  8. Found it. Patterns won't - but Hatches can be set to Rotate to Wall via the edit hatch window. Thanks for that.
  9. Hi jbd, welcome to the fora, I don't believe it's possible to do what you need. It's a novel idea to use the wall tool as a patterned line but however logical it seems I don't believe it's possible to have the patterning/hatching reorientate with the wall.

    3d Scanning

Does anyone have information on utilizing output from a 3d scan of a boat to create a successful model in VW?
  11. Hi Chirs, You've modelled the bottom block as an extrude - hence the crevices/groins. You can achieve the curved surface which should probably be sphericalby either using the hemisphere tool or a sweep. You'll then have to trim using solid subtractions/slice to get it to the size & shape you need.
  12. Turning off snap to grid usually helps too
  13. Yaah! I Found It!!! In the OIP the Untrim Button reverts the Nurbs Surface to larger continuous surface without holes. To trim it back to its perimeter shape: Convert copy to lines 3rd mode of polygon tool to create polygon 1st mode of the Project Tool Select the perimeter polygon Select the untrimmed Nurbs Surface thanks for all the suggestions.
  14. Thanks Michael, Except I'm missing the plugs to add to the surface.
  15. I'm trying to patch some holes that I previously created in a Nurbs Surface using the Project>Split tool followed by Delete but with no success. Is there a trick/secret, I was hoping for something along the lines of Add Surface but no luck there. Is it a case of once split/delete there's no going back? I'll try convert to mesh - not sure that's going to help... Any ideas? Thanks for your help.
  16. It's probably possible in a 3d view to Modify>Convert>Convert to Group and in an elevation view use the 2nd mode of the Split tool to split the drape as desired.
  17. Lighting Positions like to be Hybrid Symbols, you don't need to leave the text floating there - rather draw a line or rectangle etc. to represent your LP in Top/Plan view, select both and create a symbol. Leave Instance in place and convert 2d Layer Plane objects to Screen Plane objects. Then Spotlight>Object Conversion>Convert to Lighting Position. 'twould be nice if you could bypass the create Symbol step, seems logical. I take your point however that when no 2d geometry is present or desired the label should still be visible in 3d views, and the 3d gemoetry should be visible if there is no 2d geometry available. This should now be possible with the new Layer Plane functionality of VW2011. A wish list wish might make it so.
  18. My mistake, I don't see this. Objects are retaining their z values when moved in Top/Plan view.
  19. In the Object Info Palette when you select your Light Position Object there is a field for Position Name. Just below this is a checkbox Position Summary that you need to check for the LP name to appear. It may be a distance away and the scale may make it difficult to read but its handle will be visible Select the LP and Text>Size if needed.
  20. Also try this: Select the Poly defining your paths. Be sure it's closed. Modify>Objects from Poly>Site Modifer - Texture Bed
  21. Have you explored the Modify>Move>Move 3d command?
  22. A slab is a hybrid object of uniform thickness always created parallel to the ground plane. You can define your 3d polygon and give it a thickness using the Shell Solid tool (Shift G). Another alternative to the methods above is to draw your hardscape on a working plane and extrude it to the desired thickness. If in Top/Plan view you draw a 2d polygon you can select both 2d and 3d objects >Create Symbol to produce a hybrid symbol with its attendant benefits.
  23. Did you really purchase 2011 over 8 months ago and haven't opened the box yet? Go ahead, crack it open while it's still fresh.
  24. It sounds like you're drawing it in 2d. VW 2010 & 2011 2d screen objects and all 2d objects in earlier versions will behave as you describe. If you are using 2011/2010 select your objects and in the Object Info Palette change from Screen Plane to Layer Plane. If using an earlier version you can convert to 3d Polys, Walls, etc.
