  1. OK, I can import the symbol into the drawings and all I have to do is update the sheet data. It would be nice if there was a central project file for synchronizing project info like this. The issue data doesn't seem to do what I thought it was supposed to either. I can edit the issue data per sheet but the issue manager can only add items not modify them or list them. I had been testing my title blocks and had a few odd issue entries and had to go back and edit every sheet instead of managing them globally with the issue manager. Again, you have to get everything right the first time or you can't change things. We get a lot of projects where the name and description changes or we have to match the official issue info to another parties info. I am going to have to go back to referencing a title block into each drawing and have the sheet info as normal text.
  2. I was having the same issue with the section markers not showing up. I also had a problem with the text item/sheet options not matching the symbol options. you can select item over sheet but I could not rotate the text. You can choose item / sheet for some markers but not others. I was able to use our custom markers but could not get the text to match the style. After having the section lines disappear I had to just use our old symbols.
  3. I am pretty sure revit has the function to project walls to roof or other objects like ADT/ACA does. You can have the walls auto project or you can manually add points to the top or bottom of walls.
  4. I do like that OSB texture. For comparison, here is a link to a 3D PDF I printed from ACA2009 of a model I did. This is a rough model I used as a preview for the client. For some reason the orbit feature doesn't seem to be working for but you can pan and zoom around the image. The walls are all single wall styles with different components set to different heights. You can add surface and section hatches and textures to each component either by class/layer or by component overrides so your generated elevations and sections are hatched appropriately. The wall styles have built in property sets for scheduling height, length, surface area, openings etc. but you can add any custom property data with calculation modifiers to schedule stone and stucco for the different wall components. You can also add or subtract 3D components to the wall to make a recess or protrusion. You can cut away the stone as you did in your example or make the stone semi transparent.
  5. There should be a way to share that info between different project files or the way the title block interface works is pointless. We typically use a referenced title block into each drawing but I was trying to set up this project to use some of the nice features of the create standard layers tool. too late now to redo it on this project.
  6. Can the custom title block data be updated between multiple project drawing files? I started a project with all sheet layers in one master file then had to break it into different sheet set files. The way the info is updated is nice but kinda pointless unless it can be done between different files. Also, when I make a new sheet for the set and insert a border, the project info has to be reentered into the new title block. I thought the project info was stored in the title block record. I have not been able to update a new title block from the record. I am not sure how this is supposed to work.
  7. When I export a drawing to DWG in 2009 some generated elements in section and elevations disappear. I will have walls and slab but the roof trusses disappeared. In elevations I get a few wall lines and no windows or doors. Everything shows up in the VW drawing before export and I updated the section viewports. I need to get this resolved because I have to send all my drawings to others as DWG. I would also like to find out if there was a way to choose which font to export to in Autocad. Or if there is an arch style font in macVW that at least converts to something similar in Acad. After exporting all the text is overlapping and looks like crap. Will setting the simplex style to autocad to something close help with this.
  8. Yea I did have a space selected when I ran it. Ah right, Extrusion Height makes sense. I thinks that is what they call it when creating a space but it is ceiling Height everywhere else. Thanks.
  9. Pat, I ran the pio fields script and it doesn't show me the info I am looking for. What I need is the field name for space ceiling height. I have tried every combination I could think of and my room finish schedule won't report the ceiling heights. This is all I get: Parameter Fields for PIO: NNA_SpaceData Display Name Cell Formula ParamIndex 'NNA_SpaceData'.'ParamIndex' Label 'NNA_SpaceData'.'Label' I get only the header names if I do not select anything. I ran the script on a layer with my spaces. Is there no list available of the default field names used?? Are they in a file somewhere in the application folder?
  10. I have no idea what caused the problem before but after deleting the layer and doing it again it worked without any problems. I have been asked to send this project you you guys in preparation for our in house training. I will be doing that in the next couple of days.
  11. ahh ok. Would there be a difference in the resources required to create or move an associative vs a non associative hatch. I ham having a real problem with hatching elevations. I create a rectangle and turn on a hatch and it stalls for a minute. When I select the hatch it stalls again. I am spending more time watching the pinwheel and watch spinning than I am actually drawing. I stripped down the file to just the elevations and purged it out and tried it on a mac pro and same thing. VW 12 has no problem with doing the same test with hatch.
  12. I noticed that Hatches seem to have a set origin point. If you move a hatched boundary the pattern stays in the same place. Is there a way to reset the origin for different hatched boundaries?
  13. Ahh thanks! I figured there had to be a simple way to turn those off. I have been having to blast through a lot of things with this project and learn on the fly. I have spent way too much time tinkering with things trying to make them work but I have learned a lot. You have been a huge help Pat. Thanks
  14. When I am making a room finish schedule and need to add a new finish item to the list, all the fields I had already set reset to the defaults. Is this normal?
  15. Well a brick or stone wainscot may be an additional item but there are advantages to having the stone or brick attached as a wall component. Forgive me for using ADT/ACA for comparison but you can simply change a wall type to add the wainscot. The Brick or stone will automatically clean up with joining walls with the same wainscot. You can control the height and placement of each component. If you need to lengthen a wall all the components lengthen with it instead of having to adjust your path. Is there a way in VW to make the brick in a wall 1.5" lower than the stud? The top of the brick at the soffit height? I have not seen any way to control the height of wall components separately. It is very typical here to have stone or brick with stucco or siding above. In commercial you see a lot of brick and splitface CMU and cast stone or stucco in different combinations. I recently did a project with precast wall panels that had recessed bands and recessed vertical fluted areas. Is there a way to subtract from a wall? Just trying to figure out how I could do some of these special items in VW.
  16. Is there a way to hide the database row? I don't need to show the cumulative total door thickness and length etc. I don't see an option to hide that row and if I make the text white for that row to hide it, all the data rows change. If I change the row height to try and hide it the same thing happens. They all change.
  17. Heh, they shortened the name to 'UserFld1' Is there some kind of guide to the syntax used in the data fields? I am spending way too much time trying to figure this out by trial and error.
  18. How do I get the user field data to show up on my door schedule? I used the same syntax as the model number which is user entry. =('Door'.'Model') I changed 'Model' to 'User Field 1' with and without spaces but it just gives me an error.
  19. This is basically what I figured was the case with door schedules. There is a lot of info already attached to the doors but what if you need to add some extra data? Just use the user field data and change the names in the worksheet? Is there any way to change "user field 1" to something else? Is there a way to incorporate space data into a door schedule to list room numbers?
  20. Ever thought of getting Professional Help? If you mean training from VectorWorks we have it scheduled for next month. In the mean time I have only some tutorials and this forum to assist me. Most people here have been very helpful but you have just been a pompous jerk. Thanks for that.
  21. Do extruded objects function differently? I can't seem to be able to change the appearance of any extruded object either in a viewport or by modifying the extrusion itself. Maybe I am going about this the wrong way. I have extruded a concrete beam below a floor slab. I want the beam to appear with a dashed line. I can't seem to make that happen. Is there some kind of linetype scale that just isn't showing the dashed line properly? How would you normally make a slab and beam foundation with VectorWorks?
  22. Update: The problem was with one layer I had duplicated. What I did was copy the exterior walls from one layer to the new layer then I changed the walls to a different type. The object being I need to have 2 different options for this lil building. One with metal panel and the other with brick. I deleted the new layer and my file size is back to 4MB from 983MB. Would duplicating the layer have caused this? I will try it without duplicating the layer and see if it makes a difference.
  23. I am having a strange problem with a file that went from about 4mb yesterday to 936mb today. I have purged the drawing but it didn't reduce the file size at all. The drawing crashed last night and I have been having strange problems since. This is just a small building and everything was working fine yesterday with 2 people working on it. This morning it is taking forever just to open the file. Any suggestions?
  24. I think you are misunderstanding what I am getting at. I have said clearly that I am simply trying to learn the most efficient way to use vectorworks and the best way for me to do that is to find the equivalent tools and procedures that I am used to using. We are dealing with the same kind of design software so there must be some common elements between them. You just seem to want to nitpick about my personal position on things and make false assumptions about them. No confusion between BIM and 3d modeling here. The information you can attach to any object in ADT/ACA is limitless. It can manage all your project data as well. In VW12.5 you had 4 lines of info you could add to a wall. In 2009 you have 8 data fields attached to a wall. Can custom data fields be added? If so, how? This is the kind of help I am looking for. I know how to add any information I want to anything in ACA. If the same can be done in VW it is not very clear to me how this is done. I don't wish to bicker with anyone about which is better, that is relative and subjective. Revit is great, many are migrating to it. I have Beta tested Revit since it was first bought by Autodesk. I have also beta tested ADT and ACA since 2003 and they are continuing to improve it. They have merged many features between the two in the last few years. There is a lot I like about both but I am more familiar with how ADT/ACA works so it is my preference. VectorWorks is just different and the transition has been difficult.
  25. Compared to what? Not VectorWorks. I know there are other programs out there but I am comparing VW to ADT-AutoCAD Architecture. Many of the new BIM friendly features of VW have only come out in v2008 and v2009. I have been using the BIM concept with ADT since about 98. In the early 90's I was using a very early version of AEC 3D modeling extension for AutoCAD. Things must be very different where you are from. Total opposite in fact.
