  1. OK,I see the issue data record appears when I close the issue manager. That doesn't actually store the issue entries. After I clear the entries for a border and use the issue manager to add an entry, the old entries come back. I can't seem to get rid of the old data.
  2. Where is the issue data stored and is there a way to clear out all issue information at once? I assume the data is stored in the border itself but it isn't part of my title block record. I see a drawing border record when I create a report but it does not contain the actual issue information. I had created a custom border and had played around with the issue manager and the edit issue data functions in the object info pallet. I deleted the issue data, or so I thought, and created a 60 sheet set of borders in one file. When I used the issue manager to add an issue note to all the sheets, the issues I thought I had deleted returned. The only way I can see to get rid of them is to go to each sheet but I am not sure if that will get rid of them permanently because I had done that before duplicating my borders to make this sheet set. Is there some way to purge all the issue data?
  3. I do have my guides on a separate layer in my border file. I can control the classes from the sheet layer if I set the viewport to current drawing but then I need all the classes from the other drawings in this file. I am trying to limit the number of classes needed in a drawing and separate presentation from working drawing classes. My sheet drawings mostly have just annotation classes. This is a large set of drawings and this is the first time this office has used the AIA-NCA standard classes/layers. Everyone freaks out when they see something different so I am trying to make it as streamlined as possible. I just have to make sure the guides class is turned off through the layer reference.
  4. The problem is that my guides are in my border which is a separate drawing file that I reference into other files. I am only able to control the appearance of any class from the design layer when using a referenced design layer from another drawing. I don't want to insert the detail modules into every sheet because I am still developing the plan set and I have had to change the layout a few times. Controlling classes with viewport settings only seems to work through one level unless I am missing something.
  5. Thanks folks, Pat, Does your script have to be used an a specific scale layer? I got a jumble of text overlapping and even at 3 point text it was still unreadable. Dworks, Yours worked fine. I am trying to learn a bit about vector script though so I will be tinkering with Pat's script. Thanks
  6. Is there a way to list all the classes in a drawing? I tried to get a worksheet to list them but couldn't. I have been developing a set of templates using the AIA/NCS classes with only the required classes in each file. I would like to be able to list them in a worksheet and add a description. I have the standard classes worksheet that gets added when using auto classing but I only want to list the classes in use.
  7. I have always used a non plottable layer in AutoCAD for laying out geometry and we use a set detail module layout for our sheet layers in Vectorworks. People forget to turn off the guides before printing all the time. In AutoCAD you can set any layer to not print. I guess what I need to do is make a script to turn off the guides class then print.
  8. Is there a way to make a certain class visible but not printable? I thought that guides might work that way but apparently they don't. I am just curious if there is an option for this somewhere or a specific class that doesn't print.
  9. I found that you need to have the default dim style set the way you want it before you import a DWG into the VW drawing. For some reason it doesn't seem to let you change it after the import. You also need to pay attention to the scale of the imported drawing. Is it in mm or meters or inches or decimal feet. It took some trial and error but I dont run into problems much anymore when importing DWG as long as the dims and scale are set up properly.
  10. I am also wondering why I am not able to change data across multiple objects. For example I selected all my doors and I want to add a note indicating that they are all existing to the notes data field. When I do this it only adds the data to a single door. I found the same thing with windows and spaces too. Is there some way to add data to multiple objects without having to select them one at a time or enter the data into the worksheet line by line???? I have a couple hundred doors per floor I am dealing with.
  11. This is related to the symbol issue but deals with doors and windows. Again, like walls, I want to be able to select walls doors and windows and change the class to a demo layer which makes them dashed line. It works for walls but with auto classing turned on I am unable to change the class of doors and windows. I can turn off auto classing but I would rather not. What is the typical workflow people use for demo plans in renovation work? This office has always used different classes but they didn't use actual walls, only lines. I am starting with an existing drawing in Vectorworks made from the existing plans. As we develop the project some areas will be gutted and some will remain. Some doors will be removed and discarded and some will be reused. I would typically designate the different options by class to control the appearance easily. When it comes to scheduling, is there a way to select a set of doors by class and schedule them separately on the same sheet? For instance, select all doors to be demolished and discarded by class on one schedule then select all doors to be reused on another schedule? I know you can make different worksheets but the option for "on schedule" doesn't let you choose between different schedules.
  12. We don't really have a network admin which is part of the problem. It is a small office with maybe 10 computers networked to a Mac OS X server. Is OSX server the same as apache? I don't mess with the server myself but I will ask the boss if she knows the difference between the root and user protocols. Thanks for the help.
  13. Yes, the way the sheetsets work with ADT project manager is great. I have always used attributed title blocks and I really liked how creating a new sheet from a template pulls the project information automatically. The way the title blocks are set up in Vectorworks is similar as far as defining fields but its not very friendly for communicating between files like the xml is. It would be nice if the record could be on a central file and referenced from other files. What I wound up doing on large multi file projects is I created a file with just the title blocks and borders for each sheet so I could manage project issue and revision data in one place. I then layer linked the borders to each sheet file. It works well enough.
  14. I have yet to see any advice from you at all on this board. I am beginning to doubt you know the first thing about what you claim. You act some l33t script kiddie who wasn't loved enough. Go troll somewhere else punk
  15. *Sigh* Hang in there buddy, winter is almost over and you should start to feel better and less insecure.
  16. Thanks, We would like to be able to use Archioffice to interact with vectorworks and log drawings and data associated with a project that is already in archioffice. Am I right to assume that it takes some custom programming to do this and not just built in functions of Filemaker pro?
  17. This is probably more of a Mac server issue but it mostly happens with Vectorworks files so I would like to hear if anyone has experienced the same problem and what the solution is. We have all our project info and drawings on a server. When we are working on a set of drawings the file permissions keep changing. I am not really sure what specifically causes this as it does not happen all the time and is difficult to duplicate. I suspect it may have something to do with doing a save as on a drawing and I think the server does not recognize vectorworks as an authorized user when it saves a file. Usually if I create a file on my desktop and move it to the server the permissions will be fine and everyone will be able to access them. As the file is worked on the permissions will change and everyone is locked out of the file. I have to go to the server and reset the permissions but this can happen several times a day and is very annoying. Has anyone experienced this problem? Is it specifically a Mac server issue? How do I fix it?
  18. I would be very interested in knowing how to use filemaker to pull the data from multiple files. We use filemaker pro Archioffice but I don't think anyone here really knows how to use it fully. I am eager to learn.
  19. Yes this is what I am looking for. I set the symbol lines etc to by class but they do not take on the attributes of the symbol class. It makes more sense to me to just change the class instead of having multiple copies of the same symbol with different attributes. I converted the symbol to a group and the lines take on the appearance of the group class but you can no longer use the data attached to the symbol. It just doesn't make sense to me unless I am missing something.
  20. LoL Panta, again you are taking cheap shots. To me the way symbols work in vectorworks is useless compared to how blocks function in Autocad. Why have multiple blocks when you could just change the class to change the appearance. Its the same symbol with different fills or linetype. It works for groups but not symbols. It works for other things that use embedded classes like walls. I have been setting up plan templates and I have the same complaints you seem to have about Autocad. To make vectorworks half as useful as AutoCAD it takes twice as many steps. That just isn't very productive.
  21. Is there a way to make symbols take on the attributes of the class they are on the same way that groups do? I am used to creating my symbols on layer 0 in autocad so they will pick up the attributes of the layer/class they are inserted on. I want to use symbols so I can schedule planting types and points with vW09 arch and I want to use the same symbol but have a hatch appear to distinguish between new and existing by changing the class.
  22. We ran into an issue while rushing to finish a set of plans. We had 3 different people working together on different computers. With one drawing there was a big difference in how the leader callout text appears between the different computers. On the computer the drawing was created on the text was laid out properly with no overlapping text or words wrapping. On the other computers the text is wrapped and overlapped when there is plenty of room for the text. If I click edit the callout and cancel, the text goes back to the proper position. I have checked the font version between computers and even deleted and installed the font to make sure they are the same. The machines are all using the same OS version and VW version. We should not have to mess with this kind of thing and can not find any reason for it to happen. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. Thanks, I had figured that out this morning. I was looking for something to control the appearance or size of the locus. I still want to be able to snap to them but don't need them to be full screen. Thanks.
  24. Is there a way to control the way 2D locus points are shown in VW 12.5? Each locus point shows a dotted line extending to infinity in 4 directions. We have some drawings from another architect that has hundreds of loci and the drawings are unreadable. I did a custom select and deleted the ones I could but there are also hundreds of symbols with locus points in them. How do I turn off the full screen display of these points?
  25. This is how I approach a new custom residential design as well. You need to have a concept or style in mind and think in 3 dimensions. The floor plan layout and footprint dictates how the roof can be built and roofs will vary a great deal between styles. The foundation is the last thing I do usually with custom homes. With production homes I am often given a foundation plan to start with and have to design from the ground up. The foot prints are usually very simple, rectangular with very few offsets. The roof is usually very basic as well but you can do a lot of interesting things with a box if allowed to. With commercial design it depends on the project but it usually always starts with the floor plan and space requirements unless you are designing a sculpted concept building then you start with a massing model and define the overall shape of the building then slice it into levels and define the interior spaces.
