  1. Does this not work for spaces? When I try to run this I get something about custom bound set and not any space.fields.
  2. OK I got the IF statement to divide the Door.DoorWidth by 2. Is the concat function what I would use to add the PR to it? Is that what you were trying before Jeffrey? (EDIT) I figured out how to use concat function and fudged it to add '-0" to make it look right. Is there any way to use the feet (') symbol? Now, for the overall format of the dimension values, is there a way to make all dimensions show as 3'-0" with the dash? I hate the way the 3'0" runs together in the schedules with the font we use and 3'-0" is the format we have always used. I guess your solution is the best way to do this but then again I might as well just go back to filling in all the information manually.
  3. Thanks Jeff, I will give that a try. The logic statements are fairly basic and once the formula is set up it should work the next time I use that schedule. I just have to make sure nobody uses the userfld1 for anything. I will probably use the last user field for this since it will never change.
  4. Is there a way to make the door schedule for a double door show the door size as PR3'-0" doors? A pair of 3'-0" doors.
  5. I have experienced this before and thought I was loosing my mind. It happened with a referenced file that also had issues with viewport class control. Nothing worked right in relation to classes and I had to recreate the file from scratch and paste in the walls etc. It was frustrating as hell because I was trying to show others how to set up the plan set for viewport class control and nothing worked. Tried to import a class from the file I know has the class but it doesn't show up. Can't control the appearance of the class because the viewports don't know the class exists even when it is in both the drawings.
  6. There is a setting in document preferences > resolution for rotated text display quality. I don't notice any difference on my computer but it is worth a try. We have one computer where any rotated text prints much lighter than all the others. I have tried everything but just can't figure out what is causing it. the same computer has other text issues with callouts as well.
  7. It would be nice to be able to control wall component heights by component instead of every component being the same height as the wall. Sure, you can make different walls for a non uniform height wall assembly but then you need to add doors in each of the wall sections. If I understand how VW creates walls they are basically extrusions in the X,Y plane with a height in the Z. In other programs walls have an overall height but each component is controlled variables for offsets from wall bottom or wall top or base height. This allows components to be controlled individually when extending walls to roof or other objects. Grips for walls are always in the center of the wall even if the wall was drawn with an offset. Control of components by + or - dimensions would allow a component to be used as a control point for drawing walls. for example, a wood frame wall with brick veneer would have the outside edge of the stud wall as the baseline control point for drawing the wall. The sheathing, air space and brick would have + dimensions and offsets and the stud wall and sheetrock would have negative dimensions. You still have the same options to use the left or right side of the wall as the control point. The middle of a wall assembly is just very ambiguous unless you are using a symmetrical wall. Cleanups are a mess in VW. Turning on auto cleanup can cause more problems than it's worth and to make walls join and clean up up you have to double your work using the wall join, component join and remove wall breaks tools. Can a component priority be assigned to wall components so studs cleanup with studs, sheetrock cleans up with sheetrock. brick to brick etc. I don't know if it is possible to do this without a major overhaul but the way walls currently work is such a pain for such a fundamental tool.
  8. Jadler, is the elevation view you are trying to paste into just a view set in a design layer or is it a viewport?
  9. If you make a new file with your desired will types and put it in a workgroup folder referenced in preferences > user folders, the wall types in that custom file will appear at the top of the list and you will still have access to all the default wall types.
  10. render1final small.jpg That dog is just sitting down enjoying the shade right?... Right?
  11. Are the elevations just line drawings or generated elevation viewports? In either case the 2D polygon tool can bucket fill the elevations with hatch. There is also a hatch command that lets you define a starting point and direction for a hatch.I use the hatch command for brick and block so you don't end up with a half a brick at the bottom of a wall.
  12. I did check that and it didn't seem to make any difference. I think there is something corrupt in this set of files. I rebuilt the drawing and viewport structure from scratch and copied the drawing elements into the new files and everything worked fine. I ran into this before with this set of drawings and have no idea what is causing it. Why would "use at creation" effect this? I know it effects things like using part line styles in windows but don;t understand why it would.
  13. I am having a problem with the viewport class control just is not working. I did a sample set of files to check the settings I have them set up exactly the same way but I am unable to control classes by viewport. what are the other things that can upset this? It works n other files just not this one.
  14. I think I figured out that it cant be done but viewport control of classes is the way to go most of the time anyway. I am just experimenting with the options. Another question I have is, how is the import class option supposed to work in the viewport class dialog? If I set a viewport to be controlled by the current document I need the class in the document. I thought the import class option would import a class from the file the VP references but it doesn't seem to do anything.
  15. If I reference a design layer from another drawing into a design layer then view port the design layer into a sheet layer, is there a way to set the sheet layer viewport to be controlled by the current document class settings? The referenced view port follows the document class settings but the sheet layer view ports do not. I usually like to control classes in each view port but sometimes I want to control classes globally.
  16. I have noticed the same thing occasionally but I just opened a new file and tested it out and it is working properly for me right now. It happened yesterday on another drawing and on another machine. I think it fixed itself when I canceled out of what I was doing and changed tools.Today I can't duplicate the problem.
  17. A couple of things to check. In Document preferences see if black and white only is selected. If this is turned on you will not be able to use other colors for fills. You may also want to check your layer color settings. If use layer colors is selected in document preferences you would not be able to change colors in the attributes pallet but it would give you a warning when you tried.
  18. I am referring to section and elevation tag symbols. The problem is that the finished plot size of detail tags and text should be constant no matter what the scale. To achieve this you either have to have symbols for each scale or place the symbols loose on the sheet layers at 1-1, unless there is another option?
  19. When we had a trainer here from VectorWorks he told us we did not need to have symbols for different scales but it seems to me that we do because the symbol geometry does not scale with viewport scale. Maybe I misunderstood what he was saying or maybe I am missing something.
  20. Is it the typical work flow to create symbols for a standard layer scale like 1/4"=1'-0" and always draw in that scale in design layers? Then rescale viewports as needed in sheet layers? Is there a way to make symbols at 1-1 / actual print size and have them scale to the current layer scale? We usually have a different set of symbols scaled to either 1/4"=1' or 1/8"=1'. Some things like space/room labels do not rescale well. The text can be re sized but their placement does not adjust so the text ends up overlapping if a viewport gets scaled down.
  21. Is there a way to schedule doors from multiple files in one schedule? Can a path to another file be added to the criteria? Also, is there a way to sort the schedule by door number without having to add a 0 when you have more than 10 doors? I would rather not have to start my door numbers at 0001 just to get them to sort properly. Is there a way to trick VectorWoks into knowing the difference between 1, 10, 100?
  22. When I need to add a new sheet and title block I just duplicate a layer with a working title block. Saves having to tinker with it.
  23. This tool works pretty good and is easy to modify 2-D Path Object
  24. Check under document settings> standard naming to see if auto classing is turned on.
  25. Actually I am the only old school AutoCAD user in the office and everyone else has been using vectorworks for years. The problem is they have never updated their templates and drawing structure until I came along. I have set up the new drawing structure based mostly on the sample projects you mentioned with conventions to adapt some things to the way everyone is used to drawing here and to make things more multi-user friendly. It is working quite well for organizing our drawings and making things more dynamic but the drafters need to get out of their old school vectorworks way of thinking.
