  • Setting up Project Sharing with Vectorworks Cloud Services

    Domas

When Vectorworks is installed, the Vectorworks Cloud Services app is automatically installed with it, and a folder called “Vectorworks Cloud Services” is created.

The Vectorworks Cloud Services app will be located here:

    ·       macOS: Applications > Vectorworks Cloud Services.app

    ·       Windows: C:\Program Files\Vectorworks 2026\Vectorworks Cloud Services\Vectorworks Cloud Services.exe

The Vectorworks Cloud Services folder will be located here:

    ·       macOS: Macintosh HD > users > YOUR USERNAME > Vectorworks Cloud Services

    ·       Windows: C:\users\YOUR USERNAME\Vectorworks Cloud Services

The Vectorworks Cloud Services app syncs your Vectorworks Cloud storage to that folder.

    Project Sharing Setup:

You can start a shared project from any Vectorworks file. To set up Project Sharing using Vectorworks Cloud Services, you first need to save a copy of your Vectorworks file to the Vectorworks Cloud Services folder.

Open that file with Vectorworks and go to File > Project Sharing...

Because the file is already saved in the Vectorworks Cloud Services folder, Vectorworks will automatically select the sharing method as Cloud Service. Here you can also select the option to automatically open a working file after the setup is complete.

Under Administer Users, your username (the name you use to log in to your computer) automatically displays as the file administrator because you are the one setting up the file.

Here you can either add users or set default permissions for users who create a working file from the project file later.

On the Classify Layers pane, click the Master Layer column (yellow star) for layers that should only be modified by users with the Administrative or Project permission levels.

Under Set Backup Policy, you can specify the backup settings for the project file. Please note that these apply to the project file only. For working files, the options can be set up through Vectorworks Preferences, in the Autosave pane.

Now that the setup is finished, the file has been converted to a project file, which has the extension .vwxp instead of .vwx.

Sharing the Project with other users

    1.     Go to cloud.vectorworks.net.

    2.     Right-click the folder where the project file is stored and share the folder. It is always recommended to share the folder where the project file is located and not just the file.

    3.     Make sure that the permissions are set to Sync and Edit.

    4.     Enter the other user’s email and click OK to complete the sharing process.

The users will receive an email invitation to access the shared folder.

After accepting the invitation, they will be able to create their working files from the project file. They should ALWAYS save their working files in a local folder on their own machine.

We strongly recommend that everyone involved in the project read and follow the instructions in this help article: Project sharing best practices
