  • Tech Bulletin: Vectorworks and the new iMac Pro - 06-04-2018

    PVA - Admin

We have discovered an issue in compatibility between Vectorworks and the new Apple iMac Pro. Vectorworks is currently NOT compatible with the new iMac Pro. We have received notice of, and duplicated crashes on iMac Pros running AMD Vega 56 and Vega 64 video cards. These crashes usually occur at random intervals while using the Flyover or Zoom tools in Vectorworks. We have notified Apple and AMD, and both companies are working to resolve the issue. Again, these crashes only occur on the new model iMac Pro with AMD Vega cards; all other hardware we’ve tested has performed as expected.

    EDIT - April 05, 2018:

We can confirm that a fix was included in the latest beta of macOS 10.13.5 build 17F35e. However, we do not have a release date for this software update yet.

    EDIT - March 22, 2018:

For anyone looking to purchase this machine specifically for use with Vectorworks, we recommend you either delay your order until we announce a change in this status, or check with tech@vectorworks.net directly for the latest changes. We have been informed by Apple that they are now aware of the issue and are working to correct it.

    EDIT - June 2018:

As of macOS 10.13.5, it appears that Apple has corrected the driver issue that was causing this crash. Vectorworks will work quite well on these machines after this update is installed

So we need to wait for Apple to fix the issue?

Apple or AMD, since the issue is likely driver related.

We will keep updating this information as test more of these betas but as for now it looks promising.
