  • Handling Large .ZIP Files (Windows)

    The ZIP file format is a data compression and archive format. A ZIP file contains one or more files that have been compressed to reduce file size, or stored as-is. On some versions of Windows, the built in decompression utility cannot handle ZIP files larger than ~3.8GB. To unzip a file larger than this, you will need to use another archiver.

    With another ZIP archiver installed, right click on the .ZIP file and choose to open it with the correct application:
     

    Incorrect:

    zipfiles01.png



    Correct:

    zipfiles02.png

     

    List of common archive utilities


    The 7zip archive utility has proven easy and effective for the majority of users, it can be obtained here.
