Unity® Based Nomad and Web View

I am not happy about the change in Web View,  I use this feature often..  it was a simple way to communicate with clients and technicians,  it was easily branded with Company logo so it looks slick.

The new interface is Terrible,  not very intuitive,  and some geometry is missing;

We are open for suggestions on how to make the new Web View work better. What items in the interface would need improvements?

 

Meanwhile we will investigate the missing geometry.

Comparing the https://tinyurl.com/y7vuwwhp and https://cloud.vectorworks.net/links/11ecafc3ad270371ba2e0e94425bea9f/, I think the planar geometry is missing, which is not yet supported by the new viewer. 

 

There is a way for you to continue to use the old viewer while we work on adding support for planar geometry. 

You can bring back the old Export Web View menu command from the Workspace editor. When you upload the .vgx file to the Vectorworks Cloud Services web portal, it will open it with the old viewer.

I have Vectorworks 2022 SP3.1 (Architect, Fundamentals, Renderworks), but cant see an export to .VGX option.  What licence do you need to access this new feature?

My experience is that the navigation is very luggy and hard to do by us as architects, but mainly our clients.

Is there any progression expected?

Or a light version to export?

Would you please clarify which aspects of the navigation you find difficult? We spent a lot of effort on the navigation and would like to hear how you think it can be made easier. We are actively working on numerous improvement of the viewer and will be happy to include navigation improvements in our upcoming iteratiiterations.

Was mainly the browser being used by their clients. Changing to Chrome had the models navigate smoother compared to other browsers. The QR link with exporting to webview also helped in presenting with Nomad. 

Question: where did the shadow option go when using 2022 for exporting webiews? I couldn’t find it. Maybe somewhere in the Settings, Legacy Options?

Yes, my experience with Chrome is also the best when it comes to viewer performance. Other browsers are not as optimized as Chrome. 

I don't think there was ever an export setting that relates to shadows. It is in the viewer - in the Settings panel.

Sorry to revive a dead thread but I have some suggestions for the Nomad viewer.

 

It would be insanely helpful to be able to set the settings and have them STAY with each model so that the model looks how I want it to look when someone opens the link. The default lighting settings are enough to prevent me from using this feature at all because it defaults to "sun and sky" which casts a massive shadow over everything, the model is unviewable. I work in TV (the construction process moves very fast, sets get built in a matter of days if not hours) and the thought of having to explain to the dozens of craftspeople who are building a set that every time they want to see the model they have to go into the settings and change the sun direction & intensity has kept me from adding the models to my plans.

 

I'd love to set the lighting, rendering, edges, projection, shadows etc so the model looks its best every time it is opened.

 

One more note: it's not ideal to ask anyone who wants to view the model to download Nomad, instead of just open a web browser on their phone. Would love to have that feature in the future!

We have recently released a new functionality that allows for redefining the home view which will save all render settings, camera position and orientation and classes and layer visibilities. 

A number of saved views all with different settings can be saved as well (please note that these are not exported from the model) creating a presentation like experience where the user can navigate through different points in the model. 

That is done through a new panel called "SAVED VIEWS" located next to "CLASSES" and "LAYERS".

 

Viewing 3D models on a mobile browser was enabled in the past, but mobile browsers are really resource limited causing a large number of model crashes (even for mid size projects). Mobile browsers also do not support lights. Having this in mind, it was not an easy decision to disable viewing 3D models in a browser, but the capabilities and user experience through the app are much better. 

Thank you for telling me about the Home View! I tried it and it saved render settings and camera position as you said but it still defaults to "Sun and Sky" for Light Source. I also noticed it only saves the home view settings when I am viewing on a desktop; if I open the link in Nomad, Home View does not translate.

 

I've attached screenshots from Nomad of how bad the Sun and Sky problem is... I cannot share models if half of it is in 100% shadow because of the sun. "Follow Viewer" would be a much more logical default state in my opinion.

 

Thank you for reporting this issue! @msader We have found one problem where in a Web Browser the setting "Follow the viewer" is not properly applied. We are working on a fix that will be released soon. In this case though the setting should work and we are still investigating. In the mean time can you check the version of Vectorworks Nomad app?
