Vectorworks has long had 3D modeling capabilities for free-form solids creation: simple operations like sweeps and extrudes: Boolean operations to add, subtract, and intersect solids: NURBS curves and surfaces for Bézier forms: and more recently surface arrays and Subdivisions, the latter using Pixar's open subdiv library. As a BIM tool, Vectorworks also has numerous readily-editable architectural plug-in objects: PIOs like doors, windows, site models, structural members, and stairs to name a few. This month, we'll review important Vectorworks solids modeling techniques, and investigate some vignettes illustrating creative approaches to mixing free-form modeling and PIOs. Don't miss this one: it'll be cool.
