Northern California User GroupTopic: Using Vectorworks referencing features to improve workflow efficiency and to facilitate working with otherOur focus in this meeting will be on the referencing features in Vectorworks to link several drawing files together, whether they may be Vectorworks or AutoCAD documents, or, if using Vectorworks Architect or Design Series products, PDF or image formats. We will show how to use these features to insert project or office standard elements from one or more documents into others, to link documents from several design team members into one document, and then use the referenced files to create plans or 3D “models”, or to facilitate drawing 2D elevations and sections. Managing layers, classes, symbols and other “resources” among documents, and changes will also be discussed.

Benefits of CAD for Landscape Design (Hosted by APLD)In the landscaping industry, design professionals must choose how to document their ideas for enhancing and improving a site. This choice typically comes down to two options: draw by hand or draw with computer-aided design (CAD) tools. This presentation will explain the benefits of choosing CAD as a way to efficiently and accurately convey your ideas in a drawing, as well as provide tips for how to best make this transition.
Participants will:
Learn the primary benefits of CAD, including areas of efficiency, precision, and quantification, as well as the use of mixed media Recognize the advantages of using landscape-specific CAD applications Understand the presentation and visualization options available in digital technology Examine the perceived controversies about transitioning to CAD, such as cost, the learning curve, time and the loss of hand-drawn appeal Discover successful methods for transitioning from hand drawing to CAD workflows Register
